'A Spectator Not A Leader': Starmer Hits Badenoch With Brutal Reminder Of Her Ministerial Record In PMQs
Kemi Badenoch and Keir Starmer during PMQsKeir Starmer skewered Kemi Badenoch in prime minister’s questions today by listing all the failures she oversaw when she was in government. The prime minister hit out after the Conservative leader tried to back the prime minister into a corner over his past support for trans women. The Supreme Court dealt a huge blow to the trans community last week when it ruled that a woman is defined by biology, not gender. So Badenoch, known for gender-critical views, began her weekly sparring match with the PM by asking him to “accept” his March 2022 claim that “trans women are women” was wrong. It’s worth noting the prime minister’s spokesperson said on Tuesday that Starmer does not believe a trans woman is a woman now.In PMQs, the prime minister hit back by attacking Badenoch’s record in government. He said: “Mr Speaker, the only fiction here is the idea she delivered anything in office.“She served as the minister for women and equalities for two years.“And she did precisely nothing. She provided no clarity on the law, did nothing to improve women’s lives, which got materially worse under her watch.”The leader of the opposition served in the cabinet under both Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak. She also held four junior ministerial roles under Boris Johnson.Starmer then pointed out that the Tories have criticised hospital mixed sex wards – but the use of such wards rose by 2,000% over the last decade while the Tories were in power.“There’s a pattern of behaviour here,” the Labour leader continued.“The women and equalities minister who failed to do anything for women, the Trade minister who failed to get a trade deal with the US, the business minister who failed to get a deal with British Steel.“She’s a spectator, not a leader.”Badenoch hit back by saying she stopped the gender recognition bill in Scotland, she helped to commission the landmark Cass review into gender identity services and replaced the guidance on single-sex toilets.Starmer also told the Commons told that he “welcomed” the Supreme Court’s ruling, and that it would bring “clarity” to service providers.Related...Amol Rajan Left Bewildered By Kemi Badenoch's Approach To Leadership In Car Crash InterviewKemi Badenoch Slams China For Banning MP – After Backing Israel For Doing The SameTory Splits Erupt Over Kemi Badneoch's Call For Council Coalitions With Reform UK
