'All They Do Is Shout At The Sea': Yvette Cooper Taunts Right-Wing Rivals For Poor Migrant Plans

'All They Do Is Shout At The Sea': Yvette Cooper Taunts Right-Wing Rivals For Poor Migrant Plans
Home secretary Yvette Cooper has announced a plan to crack down on migration.Yvette Cooper took aim at her right-wing rivals today by mocking their proposals for reducing the number of migrant Channel crossings. The home secretary is launching her one in, one out, scheme with France in the hope it will finally reduce the number of so-called illegal migrants rocking up on British shores. It will mean anyone entering the UK on a small boat can be detained immediately and returned to France. The UK has to accept just as many migrants from France in exchange, albeit through a new asylum route.Anyone who has tried to get to Britain illegally will not be let in.The minister called it a “groundbreaking” deal, and said the first detentions will start in a matter of days, while removals are expected in the coming weeks. But last month, the Tories said the deal, which will only return one in every 17 illegal immigrants, was a “weak and ineffective” plan with “no deterrent effect”.Similarly, Reform UK leader Nigel Farage previously told the BBC that he does not “believe it will work”.He claimed that Brexit Britain “voted to protect our borders” rather than take a deal from France. This week, Farage also claimed there had been a “cover-up” in a child rape case and made unverified claims the suspects were asylum seekers. The Labour MP for Dover, Mike Tapp, then said Farage is a “fake patriot who is fanning the flames of hate” on this matter.Asked by BBC Breakfast if she agreed, Cooper said her right-wing rivals just “shout at the sea” rather than thinking of solutions to the migrant crisis. She said: “I think the problem with Reform and the problem with the Conservatives is that they are currently voting against our border security bill, which brings in the counter-terror powers to go after the gangs.”She pointed out that the bill will ban sex offenders from the asylum system and set up stronger enforcement law against endangering life at sea.The proposed legislation will also grant police new powers to seize and inspect mobile phones from those arriving on small boats.Cooper continued: “They [Reform and the Tories] also wanted to rip up co-operation with France and other countries, the things that make it possible for us to start returning people to France.“I think the problem is they just shout. They don’t actually ever have serious or practical plans to tackle these serious problems.“All they do is shout at the sea.”Jon Kay: Mike Tapp(Labour MP) is reported to have said Nigel Farage is a fake patriot who is fanning the flames of hate.. do you agree?Yvette Cooper: "The problem with Reform & the Tories... is that they just shout... no plans... all they do is shout at the sea" #BBCBreakfastpic.twitter.com/LUmjwMiU2G— Haggis_UK 🇬🇧 🇪🇺 (@Haggis_UK) August 5, 2025Related...'Suffragettes Would Have Been Labelled Terrorists By Yvette Cooper', Ex-MP ClaimsYvette Cooper Delivers Brutal Commons Slapdown To Chris Philp Over The Tories' Immigration Failures'I Strongly Disagree': Yvette Cooper Hits Back After Ex-Labour MP Attacks Government
