Amandaland Christmas Special Will Feature An Absolutely Fabulous Reunion
Lucy Punch and Joanna Lumley as Amanda and Felicity in AmandalandThere’ve been some exciting updates for any Amandaland fans waiting for the show’s return to our screens.A second season of the Motherland spin-off was confirmed to be in the works earlier this year, with the BBC confirming on Tuesday evening that this will premiere in 2026.Before that, though, it’s also been revealed that the hit comedy will be getting a Christmas special this festive season, featuring one very exciting guest star.Joining Lucy Punch and Joanna Lumley in the upcoming Christmas episode will be the latter’s former Absolutely Fabulous co-star Jennifer Saunders, playing the Wednesday actor’s on-screen sister.An official BBC synopsis teases: “Aunt Joan is a ball of country-living, enthusiastic upper-class bluster – very, very different from Felicity.”The episode will also mark the first time Jennifer and Joanna have acted on screen together since the work as Edwina Monsoon and Patsy Stone in Ab Fab.Joanna Lumley and Jennifer Saunders in Absolutely Fabulous: The MovieJennifer enthused: “I am delighted to be joining the fabulous Amandaland gang for a Christmas special.“Playing Joanna’s on-screen sister is guaranteed to be a laugh, who doesn’t love a family reunion SoHa style?”Lucy Punch also said: “I’m beyond excited to get started on Amandaland series two with our brilliantly talented lovely cast.“The Christmas special is going to be an absolute cracker – it’s like totes fire, with all the festive feels, for reals. Slay bells!”After its premiere earlier this year, Amandaland averaged 5.7 million viewers to date, with the second series being confirmed in March.Co-creator Sharon Horgan said at the time: “With any new show you put out there, your main hope is to make something you love and are proud of. The extra bonus is that it’s a critical hit.
