Angela Rayner Hints UK Would Not Join US If Trump Decides To Attack Iran

Angela Rayner said the UK would not be joining the US if Trump decides to attack Iran.Angela Rayner has hinted that the UK would not join the US if it decided to join Israel in its strikes on Iran.US president Donald Trump is considering sending American jets to support its Israeli ally in the regional war, according to CBS News.It comes days after Israel launched an attack on Iran over fears it was building nuclear weapons – a claim Tehran has denied.Liberal Democrat deputy leader Daisy Cooper asked the deputy prime minister if the UK would join the States in the Commons on Wednesday.Rayner replied: “The one thing I will say is that we agree with President Trump that Iran must never have nuclear weapons.“But we’ve been consistent in urging Iran to engage in the diplomatic process and work with the United States and we continue to support that diplomatic approach.”Rayner was standing in for Keir Starmer during this week’s prime minister questions, as he is currently at the G7 summit in Canada.Trump also attended the significant meeting at the start of the week but unexpectedly left early. The president’s press secretary Karoline Leavitt claimed on X that Trump left “because of what’s going on in the Middle East”.However, when French president Emmanuel Macron claimed his US counterpart departed to focus on a truce between Iran and Israel, Trump angrily refuted it.In a scathing post on social media, he said: “It certainly has nothing to do with a Cease Fire. Much bigger than that.”Having campaigned on an anti-war platform ahead of last year’s presidential elections, Trump was expected to push on with talks on a nuclear treaty with Iran last weekend. He also made it clear the US had “nothing to do with the attack on Iran” when Israel first launched a series of strikes on the country.Trump even wrote: “We can easily get a deal done between Iran and Israel, and end this blood conflict!!!!”However he abruptly changed his tune in the following days and threatened to join Israel in attacking Iran.He even warned the country’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei that he was an “easy target” although he would not be killed “for now”.Trump also met with his national security team on Tuesday to discuss what to do next.Related...Trump Declares He Wants 'A Real End' To The Israel-Iran War.
