BBC Expert Points Out The 1 Key Flaw In Trump's Threat To 'Violently Disarm' Hamas
Donald Trump said: "If they don't disarm, we will disarm them."A BBC Middle East expert has cast doubt on Donald Trump’s threat to “violently” disarm Hamas if the militant group does not voluntarily give up its weapons.Jeremy Bowen, the corporation’s international affairs editor, pointed out that the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) had killed more than 67,000 people in two years trying to do precisely that without any success.Trump made his comments amid reports that Hamas members are brutally executing rival gang members in Gaza in the wake of the ceasefire agreed with Israel last week. The US president said: “I spoke to Hamas, and I said, you’re going to disarm, right? Yes, sir, we’re going to disarm. That’s what they told me”.He added: “If they don’t disarm, we will disarm them. And it will happen quickly and perhaps violently.”Trump also spoke approvingly of the way Hamas “took out two very evil gangs” in Gaza and “killed a number of them”.Speaking on Radio 4′s Today programme, Bowen said parts of Gaza were now “pretty lawless.”“One of the problems is that in the course of the war the Hamas weapons stores were broken open and by all accounts the Gaza Strip is just flooded with weapons,” he said.On Trump’s comments about disarming Hamas, he said: “The IDF spent two years trying to do that with a massive war that’s killed more than 67,000 people and destroyed the Gaza Strip and they haven’t succeeded, so I’m not quite sure how he thinks the Americans can magically do it.“I’ll tell you one thing that was rather interesting. In the course of the same remarks, he actually issued what was a rather Trumpian approval for the summary executions that Hamas had been killing people in the streets. People who they say have been collaborating with Israel.“Trump chose to interpret that as a crackdown on gangs, which is one of his pre-occupations in the United States. He said ‘I don’t really have a problem with that’.”Related...'It's Not A Peace Deal': BBC Expert Delivers Brutal Reality Check To Donald Trump Over GazaTrump Casts Doubt On Whether Tony Blair Will Help Run Gaza After All'She's Delusional': US Ambassador Rejects Bridget Phillipson's Claim UK Played Key Role In Gaza Peace Deal
