BBC Question Time Audience Applaud At Call For Boris Johnson To Apologise For Covid Deaths
Boris Johnson speaks during a televised press conference at 10 Downing Street during the pandemic.A BBC Question Time panellist was applauded after he called for Boris Johnson to be “hauled into Downing Street” and made to apologise to the country for his handling of the Covid-19 pandemic.Lib Dem MP Josh Babarinde also demanded that the former prime minister be banned from holding public office again after a damning report found that 23,000 lives could have been saved if he had locked the country down sooner. The report, published on Thursday, said Johnson’s government – and the devolved administrations in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland – had done “too little, too late” at the start of the pandemic. It also said Johnson’s top adviser Dominic Cummings had cultivated a “culture of fear, mutual suspicion and distrust that poisoned the atmosphere” in No.10.Despite the criticism of his performance, Johnson has yet to respond to the report’s findings. On Question Time, Babarinde said his fellow panellist, Tory MP Joe Robertson, had “fobbed off the whole country” by refusing to apologise for his party’s failings. He said: “I was out there vaccinating people against the pandemic, I trained up as a volunteer with St John Ambulance. My partner, Conor, was out in A&E working with people on ventilators to try to combat this.“And we were utterly let down and undermined by the government at every turn. “Boris Johnson should be hauled into Downing Street for one last Downing Street press conference to apologise to the whole country and he should be banned from holding public office ever again in light of these failures that he has brought upon our country.”His comments were then met with loud applause from the vast majority of the audience.Gent in black, "I don't accept your half hearted apology for the mishandling of the covid pandemic" #BBCQT"We saw the data coming our of China, our of north Italy, with lots of people dying a day""Can you just say sorry for the lives lost during the pandemic"Conservative… pic.twitter.com/z0UZgurLZd— Farrukh (@implausibleblog) November 20, 2025Related...9 Shocking Things We Learnt From The Official Report Into The UK's Covid ResponseReform Council Leader Suggests Party Should Hold Inquiry Into Claim Covid Vaccine Linked To CancerLBC Presenter Roasts Reform Politician Over 'Quack' Doctor Who Said Covid Vaccine Gave King Cancer
