BBC Question Time Audience Laughs As Fiona Bruce Skewers Tory Chairman Over His Party's Record

Nigel Huddlestone and Fiona BruceA senior Tory was skewered on BBC Question Time after presenter Fiona Bruce pointed out one of his party’s biggest failures in government.Conservative chairman Nigel Huddleston was left on the back foot after he tried to attack Labour’s record on immigration.Criticising Keir Starmer’s decision to scrap the Tories’ plan to send asylum seekers to Rwanda, he said: “The first thing they did when they came into government was scrap any disincentive, was scrap the deterrent. They still don’t have a deterrent.”But Bruce then interrupted him to point out: “Even when you were in government, Nigel, you didn’t actually get anyone to Rwanda. I think it’s just worth pointing that out.”Many members of the audience then laughed and applauded the point she had made.Fiona Bruce, "Even when you were in government you didn't actually get anyone to Rwanda"Bruce calls out Conservative Nigel Huddleston who reminds us of exactly how awful the Conservatives actually were in government, and at this rate, Labour aren't that far behind #BCCQTpic.twitter.com/5gwWMdagEc— Farrukh (@implausibleblog) May 15, 2025The clash came after Starmer announced that he wanted to set up “return hubs” in other countries where asylum seekers who have failed to win the right to live in the UK can be sent.“These would be used when someone has been through the system in the UK and needs to be returned,” the PM said during a visit to Albania. But Carla Denyer, co-leader of the Green Party, accused him of aping the Tories. She said: “Mere months after rightly denouncing the last government’s failed Rwanda scheme as a gimmick and a waste of taxpayer money, Starmer is now looking for his own knock off version.“Instead of wasting more taxpayer money trying to look tough, it’s time Starmer got a grip of the real driving force behind smuggling gangs: the fact that for most people who might need and be eligible to seek asylum in the UK, there is simply no safe and managed way to do so.”Related...'It's A No-Brainer': Question Time Panellist Applauded For Her Solution To 'Absolutely Nuts' BrexitTrevor Phillips Skewers Senior Tory With 1 Killer Fact About The Rwanda SchemeTories Planned To Spend £10bn On Rwanda Scheme, Yvette Cooper Claims
