Belinda Carlisle Admits She's Not A Fan Of Sabrina Carpenter's Controversial Album Cover
Belinda Carlisle on stage last yearBelinda Carlisle has admitted she’s “horrified” at what she has described as young female artists being “totally sexualised” by the music industry.During a recent interview with The i Paper, the Heaven Is A Place On Earth singer shared her advice for young women starting out in the music industry, which would be for them to not “let the industry sexualise you”.“I would say to them, ‘Is this something you’re going to be proud of in 20 or 30 years?’,” she said.Belinda went on to turn her attention more specifically to Sabrina Carpenter and her controversial Man’s Best Friend album cover, which has sparked plenty of debate since it was unveiled over the summer. My new album, “Man’s Best Friend” 🐾is out on August 29, 2025.i can’t wait for it to be yours x Pre-order now: https://t.co/E7QJWhYV2Dpic.twitter.com/UXVLzBQTj4— Sabrina Carpenter (@SabrinaAnnLynn) June 11, 2025The former Go-Gos star explained: “I just don’t get it. I don’t think it’s empowering at all. I feel bad for her.“Obviously, she’s getting attention, but it’s not the kind of attention that is sustainable. I wonder how she’s going to feel 20 years from now.”Belinda continued: “I’m not dissing her at all, but I’m not sure about what kind of guidance she’s getting for her career.”Elsewhere in the interview, Belinda expressed her regret over one of her own more provocative career moments, when she posed for Playboy magazine in her early 40s.“The pictures were great, but when fans bring those Playboy photos for me to sign, I kind of flinch,” she admitted. “[They] were beautifully shot, and they weren’t vulgar, but looking back, I have really mixed feelings about them.”Sabrina was recently asked about the furore surrounding the Man’s Best Friend cover during a conversation with Interview magazine.Sabrina Carpenter on stage at the Brit Awards in March“If I’m being completely transparent, I don’t do anything anticipating what the reaction will be,” the Grammy winner claimed. “I only do things that speak to me, that feel right, and make sense when you hear the music.“When I came up with the imaging for it, it was so clear to me what it meant. So the reaction is fascinating to me. You just watch it unravel and go, ‘Wow’.”During a previous interview with CBS Mornings, Sabrina told her detractors: “Y’all need to get out more I think.”“I was actually shocked [by the controversy],” she claimed. “[I] think between me and my friends and my family and the people that I always share my music and my art with first, it just wasn’t even a conversation. It was just like, ‘[the cover is] perfect, for what the album is, it’s perfect for what it represents’.“Everything about it to me just felt so opposite of the world ending.”The Espresso singer added: “My interpretation is being in on the control – being in on your lack of control, and when you want to be in control. I think as a young woman, you’re just aware of when you’re in control as when you’re not.”Read Belinda Carlisle’s full interview with The i Paper here.READ MORE:Sabrina Carpenter Reacts To Controversy Surrounding Her Man's Best Friend Album CoverSabrina Carpenter Opens Up About How Barry Keoghan Split Influenced Her New AlbumColman Domingo Shuts Down Conservative Backlash To His Appearance In Sabrina Carpenter's Provocative New Video
