Davina McCall Shares That She Has Undergone Breast Cancer Surgery

Davina McCall appearing on Loose Women in SeptemberDavina McCall has disclosed that she recently underwent an operation for breast cancer.In a video posted on Instagram over the weekend, the former Big Brother host shared that she had found a lump in her breast “a few weeks ago”, noting that it “came and went”.However, she explained that while she was working at ITV recently, signs had been placed on the backs of the toilet doors encouraging people to check themselves for signs of cancer.“Every time I went for a wee, I did that,” Davina said. “And [the lump] was still there, and then one morning I saw it in the mirror and I thought, ‘I’m going to get that looked at’.“So I had a biopsy and they found out it was, indeed, breast cancer. And I had it taken out in a lumpectomy nearly three weeks ago. They take out a little bit extra, and they check the margins, and the margins are clear.“[The lump] was very, very small, so I got it very, very early which is incredibly lucky, but I am so relieved to have had it removed and to know that it hasn’t spread. My lymph nodes were clear – I didn’t have any removed – and all I’m going to do now is have five days of radiotherapy in January as kind of an insurance policy, and then, I am on my journey to try and stop it ever coming back.”View this post on InstagramDavina went on to thank the medical staff who’d helped her in the last few weeks, as well as her “brilliant” children and her husband, Michael Douglas.She admitted: “It’s been a lot. I was very angry when I found out, but I let go of that, and I feel in a much more positive place now.“I think my message is, get checked. If you’re worried, check yourself regularly. If you are due a mammogram, then get it done.”Earlier on in the clip, Davina said she was sharing her story in the hopes that it “might help someone”, writing in the caption: “The message here is know your boobs. Notice any changes. Don’t procrastinate. Get your free checkups. And never ignore a niggle.
