Donald Trump Is Pulling The US Out Of An International Body Set Up To Promote Peace

Donald Trump walks from Marine One after arriving on the South Lawn of the White House, Tuesday, July 15.Donald Trump is pulling the United States out of another international body as he continues to pursue his “America first” foreign policy.The US will no longer be a part of the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco), which was set up after the second world war to promote peace around the world.The withdrawal is due to take effect in December 2026.Trump has already withdrawn from the UN’s human rights council and vowed to remove America from the World Health Organisation, as well as pulling funding from the Palestinian relief agency Unrwa.White House deputy spokesperson Anna Kelly told the New York Post: “President Trump has decided to withdraw the United States from Unesco – which supports woke, divisive cultural and social causes that are totally out of step with the common sense policies that Americans voted for in November.”A spokesperson for the US state department said: “Unesco works to advance divisive social and cultural causes and maintains an outsized focus on the UN’s sustainable development goals, a globalist, ideological agenda for international development at odds with our America First foreign policy.”It will be the third time the US has withdrawn from Unesco.The first time was in 1983, when then-president Ronald Reagan accused the organisation of anti-western bias.After re-joining under George W Bush in 2003, Trump once again withdrew the US in 2017 during his first term as president.That decision was subsequently overturned in 2023 by Joe Biden, with his administration saying America’s membership was vital to counter China’s growing influence around the world.Audrey Azoulay, the director general of Unesco, she “deeply” regretted Trump’s decision to withdraw the US once again.She said: “However regrettable, this announcement was anticipated and Unesco has prepared for it.”Related...Ron DeSantis Urges Trump To Release Epstein Files: ‘No One’s Been Brought To Justice’Trump's Masterplan To Get Weapons To Ukraine Is Not The Diplomatic Win It SeemsAnti-Trump Protesters Will Draw Rude Message On Beach To 'Welcome' Him To Scotland
