Ed Balls 'Flabbergasted' As Reform MP Defends Platforming Anti-Vaxxer
Ed Balls and Richard Tice arguing over the Covid vaccineEd Balls was left “flabbergasted” this morning after Richard Tice defended Reform UK’s decision to platform someone who openly speculated about a link between the Covid-19 vaccine and the King’s cancer. While Reform has insisted that it is not a home to conspiracy theorists, they allowed a vaccine-sceptic doctor to give a speech from the main stage at their party conference last week.Dr Aseem Malhotra, an adviser to US health secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr, claimed vaccines “created havoc” in the human body.He also alleged that an “eminent oncologist” had told him the Covid vaccines played a “significant factor in the cancers of members of the royal family”.This remark triggered Reform council leader, Linden Kemkaran, to then suggest the party should hold an inquiry into the claim. On ITV’s Good Morning Britain, presenter Balls told Reform’s deputy leader Tice that this may all backfire specularly.Balls pointed out that while Reform wants to win over “sensible Conservatives”, those people are unlikely to back this new bizarre claim about the side-effects of the Covid jab.He said: “Sensible Conservatives don’t think the King has cancer because he’s taken a Covid vaccine and when he sees your party putting a platform on for somebody at their conference, somebody spreading not just misinformation – children will die if they don’t give their kids the MMR vaccine.“It’s really serious, it’s not something to be laughed at.”Tice smiled, and said it all came down to free speech, adding: “If somebody says something and we all think, ‘that doesn’t sound right’, actually, you’ve shone sunshine on that issue and if you think it’s ridiculous, well, better that than a conspiracy theory being talked and discussed below the table that nobody knows about on the dark web.”Co-presenter Susanna Reid reminded him that Reform “invited this person to speak”.Tice joked that Balls had been “silenced”, to which the presenter said: “I’m flabbergasted that you would think –”But Tice cut in: “Do you not believe in free speech, in sharing ideas, some of them are sensible, some of them are completely daft?”Asked if this anti-vax idea was “completely daft,” Tice replied: “It may well be, I’m not a medical expert.”Balls sat there with his mouth wide open, before interjecting: “I totally agree with free speech, but the idea that you, Richard Tice, putting a vaccine sceptic on your platform to spread lies and misinformation about the King’s cancer –”“So you agree free speech as long as you like the message, that’s essentially what you’re saying?” Tice hit back. “Come on, get a grip. That’s exactly what you’re saying, Ed. As long as you agree with it, you agree with free speech.”After Dr Malhotra’s speech, a Reform UK spokesperson distanced the party from his views saying he was a “guest speaker with his own opinions”.They told the BBC: “Reform UK does not endorse what he said but does believe in free speech.”A doctor at the Reform conference claimed that the King's cancer was linked to the COVID-19 vaccine.@EdBalls questions Deputy leader of Reform, @TiceRichard, on these claims. pic.twitter.com/CmmNnOOTxc— Good Morning Britain (@GMB) September 8, 2025Related...Reform Council Leader Suggests Party Should Hold Inquiry Into Claim Covid Vaccine Linked To Cancer4 Completely Bonkers Things That Happened At The Reform UK ConferenceLBC Presenter Roasts Reform Politician Over 'Quack' Doctor Who Said Covid Vaccine Gave King Cancer
