Elton John on stage in November 2024Sir Elton John has opened up about the difficulties he’s faced in the last year relating to his health. The British music legend disclosed last year that he’d lost his sight in one eye as the result of an infection, effectively rendering him blind as his vision in the other was already so poor.“I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye,” he said in November 2024.He continued at the time: “There’s hope and encouragement that it will be OK, but I’m kind of stuck at the moment, because [going] into the studio and recording [is difficult]. Because I can’t see a lyric for a start.”During a more recent interview with Variety published on Tuesday, he said the issues with his sight had been “devastating” for him.View this post on Instagram“Because I lost my right eye and my left eye’s not so good, the last 15 months have been challenging for me because I haven’t been able to see anything, watch anything, read anything,” he explained. The Grammy winner’s latest interview was hooked on his work with the Elton John AIDS Foundation, a charity he set up in the late 1990s to help with the HIV/AIDS crisis.“I’ve had the most incredible life, and there is hope,” he said of his sight issues. “I’ve just gotta be patient that someday science will help me with this one. Once they help me with this one, I’ll be fine.”He added: “It’s exactly like the AIDS situation. You mustn’t give up hope, you must be stoic, you must be strong and you must always try and batter the door down to try and improve things.”Elsewhere in the interview, Sir Elton raised eyebrows with comments he made about US leader Donald Trump, after remarking that “ending AIDS” could help him to be considered “one of the greatest presidents in history”.READ MORE:Elton John Raises Eyebrows With Latest Donald Trump CommentsElton John Gets Candid About Studio 'Outbursts' Making New Album: 'I Was A Nightmare''That Really Hurt Me': Music Legend Admits Past 'Bad Blood' With Elton John
