Exclusive: Tory MP's Bizarre Question About Gender Neutral Toilets Slapped Down By Minister
John Hayes asked how many gender neutral toilets are in the Foreign Office.A Tory MP’s bizarre question about how many gender neutral toilets are in government buildings has been slapped down by a Labour minister.John Hayes has written to every Whitehall department with the same query. In the one he sent to foreign secretary Yvette Cooper, Hayes asked “how many single sex and gender neutral bathroom facilities her department provides in its Whitehall premises”.But he was given short shrift by Foreign Office minister Seema Malhotra, who answered it on Cooper’s behalf. In her reply, the minister said: “I will be glad to schedule an opportunity for the Right Hon Member to come into the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office’s King Charles Street offices and count the number of toilets if he considers that a sensible and appropriate use of his time.“He will find that there has been no change to the provision of facilities to that in place under the previous government.”A Labour source told HuffPost UK: “The Tories got nothing done over 14 years in power because they were always far more interested in counting government toilets than they were in cutting NHS waiting lists.“Even in opposition, instead of learning the lesson the electorate taught them, they would still prefer to ask about bathroom facilities than building houses. They remain stuck in the past, stuck in a rut, and stuck in the toilet.”Related...Exclusive: Labour Minister Slaps Down Another Tory MP After Bizarre Gender Neutral Toilet QuestionReform Tells Men To Use Female Toilets Despite Advocating For Single-Sex SpacesBridget Phillipson Still Can't Say Which Toilet Trans People Are Meant To Use
