Fantastic Four Star Vanessa Kirby Sets The Record Straight Over 1 Of The Film's Biggest Mysteries
Vanessa Kirby at the premiere of The Fantastic Four: First StepsThis article contains spoilers for The Fantastic Four: First Steps.Fantastic Four star Vanessa Kirby has cleared up one of the biggest mysteries surrounding the new Marvel movie. The former star of The Crown plays Sue Storm in the rebooted Fantastic Four film First Steps, in which she’s joined by Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach.While the film serves as a stand-alone reintroduction to the classic comic book characters, anyone with even a passing interest in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be able to tell you that the franchise loves dropping in a cameo or two – most notably in its post- and mid-credits sequences. Those who stuck around until the end of The Fantastic Four: First Steps will know this film is no exception, with one shot during the credits depicting a hooded figure looming over Sue Storm’s son, who is now a child. While Doctor Doom’s face is never seen (as his back is turned away from the camera), we do see him holding the character’s iconic helmet. We already know the character is set to be portrayed by Robert Downey Jr in the next Avengers movie – and Vanessa confirmed to Variety that it was the former Iron Man star in the scene, even if fans couldn’t actually see him.Robert Downey JrVanessa enthused: “Robert’s never not been on set. He’s always there. He is our leader. We call him our Godfather.“He’s looked after us. It’s such a joy working with [the Russo brothers, who directed The Fantastic Four: First Steps as well as many other Marvel projects] and him, because they’ve had such deep collaboration for so long.”Robert will make his debut as Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday, which is due for release next year. The hugely ambitious film will feature a cross-section of Marvel stars past and present, including some rather surprising additions.Looking ahead to the future of the MCU, Vanessa said it’s been “amazing being pregnant and working on Avengers”.“I felt so inspired and so relieved that I’ve been so taken care of,” she added. “It’s been a really beautiful journey. Robert is just doing incredible work. I’m so excited.”The Fantastic Four: First Steps is in cinemas now.MORE MARVEL NEWS:Marvel's Dramatic Avengers: Doomsday Cast Announcement Has Inspired Our Favourite New Meme'I Had My Eye On It': David Tennant Was Disappointed To Miss Out On This Superhero RoleCynthia Erivo Is Hoping To Play This Iconic Character After The Success Of Wicked
