Gary Lineker, Nicola Coughlan, Dua Lipa, Riz Ahmed and Benedict CumberbatchOutgoing Match Of The Day host Gary Lineker has joined Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan, chart-topping musician Dua Lipa and Oscar nominees Riz Ahmed and Benedict Cumberbatch, as well as hundreds of other public figures, in co-signing an open letter to Keir Starmer urging him to end his “complicity” in Gaza.On Thursday morning, Sky News reported that more than 300 public figures from across the world of music, sport, film, television, activism and beyond had put their names on the letter, organised by the charity Choose Love.Sky News’ report said the letter called for an “immediate suspension of all UK arms sales to Israel” and “immediate humanitarian access for experienced aid agencies”, as well as urging Starmer and his government to help facilitate a ceasefire in the Middle East for the good of the “children of Gaza”.“You can’t call it ‘intolerable’, yet do nothing,” the letter said, referring to a joint statement issued by Starmer and several other world leaders last week.“The world is watching and history will not forget. The children of Gaza cannot wait another minute.“Prime minister, what will you choose? Complicity in war crimes, or the courage to act?”Keir StarmerHighlighting the 71,000 children under four years old in Gaza who are “acutely malnourished”, the letter described falling bombs as “violence stamped with UK inaction – flown with parts shipped from British factories to Israel”.Among those to have co-signed the letter include Holocaust survivor Stephen Kapos, This Morning host Dermot O’Leary, Oscar winner Tilda Swinton and music legend Annie Lennox. Bafta nominee Maxine Peake, filmmaker Danny Boyle, singer Paloma Faith, internet personality Amelia Dimoldenberg and artist Tracey Emin also put their names on the letter, as did models Munroe Bergdorf and Lily Cole, Game Of Thrones star Lena Headey, actor Zawe Ashton, former Love Island host Laura Whitmore and the British groups Massive Attack and Primal Scream.Israel launched a full-scale offensive into Gaza in October 2023 in response to the Hamas attack on Israeli soil where they killed 1,200 people and took 251 hostage. After 19 months of war in the region, more than 50,000 Palestinians are estimated to have been killed.Read more of the letter on Sky News’ website here.READ MORE:Gary Lineker Confirms He's Leaving The BBC Early After Backlash Over Mistaken Anti-Semitic PostNicola Coughlan Makes Her Feelings Clear On Harry Potter Remake As She Raises £100K For Trans CharityNicola Coughlan Helps Raise £1.5 Million For Children In Palestine
