Gary Oldman Reveals Prince William's Slow Horses Jibe During Knighthood Ceremony
Sir Gary Oldman outside Windsor Castle on TuesdaySir Gary Oldman paid a visit to Windsor Castle this week to receive his knighthood for services to drama.After the event on Tuesday, he revealed to the press that Prince William, who bestowed him with the title, took the opportunity to poke fun at one of his most famous characters during the ceremony.Talking to reporters, Sir Gary revealed that Prince William had told him he was “a fan” of the Apple TV series Slow Horses, for which the actor has received universal praise thanks to his performance as the scruffy and flatulent spy Jackson Lamb.“He says, ‘every time I see you, I just want to give you a good wash’,” the Oscar winner claimed (as reported by The Sun). “And I said, ‘well, I think I’ve scrubbed up OK today’.”The Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy actor added that he also spoke to Prince William about some of the other films he has appeared in over the years, naming The Fifth Element and The Darkest Hour, which earned him an Oscar following his performance as Winston Churchill.“He said he was very happy that I was here today and that it was him that had the opportunity to present me with [the honour],” Sir Gary shared.Gary Oldman being knighted by Prince William on TuesdaySir Gary later told the press he felt “very honoured, very humbled and flattered, I think in equal measure” about receiving the knighthood.Describing the day as “very emotional,” he revealed it was “hard to find my voice, really” during the ceremony.He also admitted that the honour was like nothing else that had happened in his long career in film and TV.“I thought the Oscar was a big deal.
