Glenn Close Has A Message For All's Fair Critics After Show's Scathing Reviews
Glenn Close in All's FairGlenn Close has defended her new show All’s Fair after it received some seriously scathing reviews.Debuting earlier this month at 0% on Rotten Tomatoes and earning rare zero-star reviews from the likes of The Guardian and The Times, the show became a must-watch for people seeking so-bad-it’s-good entertainment. And while one of the biggest criticisms of All’s Fair was its leading performance from Kim Kardashian, Glenn has stuck up for her co-star during a recent interview, especially considering her lack of acting background.“She surrounded herself with really good people,” Glenn insisted to The Guardian. All’s Fair, which saw Kim play a divorce attorney alongside Naomi Watts and Teyana Taylor, is her first leading performance, though she has previously appeared in another divisive Ryan Murphy series, 2023’s American Horror Story: Delicate.Although Glenn is not declaring Kim the new Meryl Streep, she at least enjoyed working with the reality TV star, who also produces the show alongside her “momager”, Kris Jenner.“She’s lovely!” Glenn enthused. “And very smart. Very, very conscientious with her kids.”Pointing out that Kim was studying towards her law degree when she was on set with the other women, she added: “Near the end she would have flashcards. She now has her law degree, and I asked her: are you going to practise? And she said: no, I just want it in my back pocket.”This, of course, is not quite true, as Kim eventually failed her bar exam in early November, which means she can’t currently practice law. However, the reality star isn’t letting this stop her from continuing her goals to follow in her father’s footsteps and become a lawyer. “Failing short isn’t failure — it’s fuel,” she later wrote in an Instagram Story post. “I was so close to passing the exam, and that only motivated me even more. Let’s go!”Kim Kardashian as a high-flying divorce lawyer in All's FairElsewhere in the interview, Glenn claimed that Ryan Murphy’s lawyer show – which was declared by one critic to be “the worst drama ever” – gets better, if only audiences are willing to give it more time.“I swear to God, I’ve seen all nine episodes and it’s pretty fucking good. It is what it is: it’s juicy and outrageous at times and touching,” she told The Guardian. Meanwhile, in another recent interview with Variety, Glenn admitted the first episodes were not the best showcase of the drama and argued that critics had judged the Disney+ show prematurely.“I personally think that the first three episodes were the weakest,” she said. “That was a tough way to start.”The Knives Out: Wake Up Dead Man star added that she thinks Kim’s casting only added to the mauling the show had by critics (and, indeed, anyone with a social media account). “The Kardashians would say this themselves, but not everybody likes them,” Glenn said. “They have an image.”While Kim can presumably count out becoming a future Oscar winner, Glenn continued to defend her “seriousness of intent”. The Fatal Attraction star continued to praise Kim to Variety, maintaining that she “always knew her lines”, was “never late” and “always was prepared”.“She had no pretensions that she was a great actress, but she was smart enough to have people around her who she could learn from. If she was a big ego or what I call a ‘life-is-too-short person,’ I would have been unhappy, but she’s not,” Glenn added. All’s Fair is streaming now on Disney+.READ MORE:Thought The Cast Of All's Fair Looked Familiar?
