Huge Crowds Attend Anti-Trump 'No Kings' Protests Across America

(AP Photo/Mike Stewart)Huge crowds of people have attended anti-Donald Trump protests across America.The “No Kings” demonstrations were organised to coincide with a huge military parade hosted by the US president in Washington DC.Trump’s parade, which took place on his 75th birthday, was officially held to mark the 250th anniversary of the US army and is estimated to have cost $45 million (£33m).“The corruption has gone too far,” protest organisers wrote on their website. “No thrones. No crowns. No kings.”They claimed that millions had taken part in the the protests, including lawmakers, union leaders and activists. “I just feel like we need to defend our democracy,” Karen Van Trieste, a 61-year-old nurse, told the Associated Press.CC Tellez, an immigrant from Bolivia who attended a protest in Philidelphia, said: “I am what the successful American dream looks like. I’ve enjoyed great success here in the United States, and I’ve also contributed heavily to my community. And if there was space for me, I think there’s a way for everybody else to belong here as well.”In a statement, the protest organisers said: “Today, across red states and blue, rural towns and major cities, Americans stood in peaceful unity and made it clear: we don’t do kings.”In Los Angeles, protester Peter Varadi said: “I voted for Donald Trump and now I regret that, because he’s taken this fascism to a new level. It’s Latinos now. Who’s next? It’s gays. Blacks after that.
