'It's A Pity': Volodymyr Zelenskyy Says Trump 'Gave Putin What He Wanted' With This 1 Move
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy sits for an interview with ABC News' Martha Raddatz on Sept. 5, 2025.Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said it’s a “pity” that he was not invited to join Donald Trump’s summit with Vladimir Putin in Alaska last month, declaring that the US president gave the Russian dictator “what he wanted.” (Watch video below)In an interview with ABC News’ Martha Raddatz in Ukraine broadcast on Sunday, Zelenskyy said the Anchorage summit on August 15 afforded an opportunity to Putin to show the world that he is welcomed on US soil.“It’s a pity that Ukraine was not there, because I think that President Trump gave Putin what he wanted,” Zelenskyy said. “Putin doesn’t want to meet with me, but he wants very much to meet with the president of the United States, to show everybody video and images that he’s there.”Trump has previously expressed frustration at criticism of his decision to afford Putin the meeting. While Trump literally rolled out the carpet for Putin and invited the Russian leader to ride with him in the Beast, the armored presidential limousine, the U.S. president still insisted that it “actually, it was very hard for President Putin to do so.”President Donald Trump greets Russia's President Vladimir Putin on Aug. 15 at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska.Putin recently claimed that he would be happy to meet Zelenskyy for peace negotiations in Moscow, an offer that was predictably swiftly rebuffed by Ukrainian officials.Zelenskyy reiterated that there is no way he would sit down with Putin in the Russian capital and stressed that Putin knows his offer is unacceptable and is just “playing games.”“He can come to Kyiv,” Zelenskyy said of Putin. “I can’t go to Moscow when my country is under missiles, under attacks each day. I can’t go to this capital of this terrorist.”Meanwhile, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told NBC’s Meet the Press what he believes needs to happen for Putin to seriously engage in peace negotiations. “If the US and the EU can come in, do more sanctions, secondary tariffs on the countries that buy Russian oil, the Russian economy will be in full collapse and that will bring President Putin to the table,” Bessent said.Trump, though, has yet to punish Russia even as Putin has repeatedly ignored his deadlines for stopping attacks on Ukraine. On Sunday, the day when Moscow launched its largest aerial attack of the war, Trump told reporters he was “not happy” about the state of the conflict but projected confidence that he would manage to broker peace between the two countries.“I think we’re going to get it settled,” Trump said.Related...‘Condescending P***k’: JD Vance’s Zelenskyy-Oval Office Anecdote Backfires OnlineTrump Backtracks In Embarrassing Move After Meetings With Zelenskyy And Putin'The Opposite Of Peace': Putin Launches Air Strikes On Ukraine During Trump-Zelenskyy Talks
