‘It’s Possible’: Trump Won’t Rule Out Future US Involvement In Israel-Iran Conflict
US President Donald Trump stops and talks to the media before he boards Marine One on the South Lawn at the White House on June 15, 2025President Donald Trump on Sunday did not rule out the US getting involved in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran, while hinting that he would be “open” to seeing Russian President Vladimir Putin help de-escalate the tension. In an interview with ABC News, Trump left the door open for the US to enter the fighting, clarifying that this is not currently the case.“We’re not involved in it,” Trump said. “It’s possible we could get involved. But we are not at this moment involved.”The conflict broke out last week after Israel launched airstrikes aimed at Iran’s nuclear and missile sites, also killing some of its top generals. Trump said he was given advance notice of the plan, expressing support for Israel.Iran responded by launching its own set of deadly attacks against Israel.Trump said he would not be against having Putin mediate between the two countries to end the tension.“I would be open to it,” Trump said. “He called me about it. We had a long talk about it... This is something I believe is going to get resolved.”Trump and Putin spoke by phone Saturday, the US president confirmed in a post on his Truth Social platform, saying the Russian leader reached out to wish him happy birthday and to discuss the ongoing Iran-Israel battle.“He feels, as do I, this war in Israel-Iran should end, to which I explained, his war [in Ukraine] should also end,” Trump wrote. The Associated Press noted that the current conflict could give Russia an opportunity to emerge as a power broker on the world stage, given its ties to both Israel and Iran, but also distract attention from its war in Ukraine. In his ABC News interview, Trump reiterated his call on Tehran to sign a nuclear deal with the US, suggesting that Israel’s attacks may have sped up the path to an agreement. For now, though, progress on a deal remains uncertain as the next round of talks planned between Washington and Tehran for Sunday was cancelled after a spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry said it would be “meaningless to participate in dialogue with the party that is the biggest supporter and accomplice of the aggressor.”Related...Israel’s Dangerous War Against Iran Is Escalating — With Donald Trump’s Tacit BlessingTrump And Tucker Carlson Are Falling Out Over Trump’s Support For IsraelHillary Clinton Needles Trump Over ‘Low-Energy’ Military Parade Crowds
