JK Rowling Makes Fun Of Harry Potter Star Emma Watson's Comments About Their Relationship
JK Rowling in 2018JK Rowling has indirectly responded to Harry Potter star Emma Watson’s recent comments about her and their relationship. In the last five years, the Wizarding World creator has become a controversial figure due to her commentary about issues relating to the transgender community. This has included repeatedly and deliberately misgendering transgender public figures, and donating tens of thousands of pounds to the campaign group which raised the initial legal challenge that led to the UK Supreme Court’s divisive ruling that the legal definition of a woman should include only those who were assigned female at birth.Back in 2020, when Rowling first faced backlash due to comments she’d made about trans people, Emma issued a brief statement which read: “Trans people are who they say they are and deserve to live their lives without being constantly questioned or told they aren’t who they say they are.“I want my trans followers to know that I and so many other people around the world see you, respect you and love you for who you are.”Emma Watson in 2023Harry Potter stars Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint issued similar statements at the time, and in the years since, Rowling has claimed that the trio should “save their apologies” (when one X user claimed that they owed her one), and later reportedly alluded to the fact the group had “ruined” the original run of films for her.During a recent interview with podcaster Jay Shetty, Emma was asked how things stand between herself and the author now, to which she said: “I really don’t believe that by having had that experience and holding the love and support and views that I have, mean that I can’t and don’t treasure Jo and the person that I had personal experiences with.“I will never believe that one negates the other and that my experience of that person, I don’t get to keep and cherish.”Noting she is “most upset” that a “conversation” between herself and Rowling was “never made possible”, she added: “It’s my deepest wish that I hope that people who don’t agree with my opinion will love me, and I hope I can keep loving people who I don’t necessarily share the same opinion with.”Although Rowling has not responded to these comments outright, she did repost one video from the online satirist Intel Lady parodying the Little Women actor’s comments on X.“I’m already missing [Intel Lady’s Angela Rayner impression], but I’m here for ALL the spoofs,” Rowling wrote alongside a laughing emoji, in an apparent reference to a notable comment Emma Watson once made at the Baftas in 2022.I'm already missing @intel_lady's Angela Rayner, but I'm here for ALL the spoofs🤣 https://t.co/2jdtD9MYw7— J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) September 26, 2025A day later, Rowling reposted an opinion piece about the Harry Potter star’s comments in the online outlet The Critic. It’s quite extraordinary how many people think a crocodile will be so grateful you’ve fed it red meat for years that it’ll let you stroll away unharmed when you decide you want a break. https://t.co/RHcNHhllCr— J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) September 27, 2025A new TV series based on the Harry Potter books recently entered production, featuring an all-new cast (and one returning face from the original fantasy film series).Since the project was announced, several cast members have been met with backlash for accepting roles in the show despite Rowling’s involvement as an executive producer.MORE HARRY POTTER:Harry Potter Star Emma Watson Has Her Say On Rift With JK RowlingHarry Potter Director Insists Reunion Would Be 'Impossible' Due To JK Rowling ControversyEmma Thompson Makes Very Honest Admission Over How She Really Feels About Her Harry Potter Role
