Jonathan Ross Says Ricky Gervais' Reason For Turning Down Celebrity Traitors Was 'Right'

Jonathan Ross on The Celebrity TraitorsJonathan Ross has revealed that Ricky Gervais turned down the chance to appear on The Celebrity Traitors because he had a suspicion about the show which turned out to be pretty spot on.Last year, Jonathan and Ricky were two of the first celebrities rumoured to have been approached about taking part in The Celebrity Traitors, with the latter joking soon afterwards he had turned down the offer as he’s “too busy and there’s no way they could afford me”.During the latest episode of his podcast Reel Talk, Jonathan told listeners: “I had a chat this week with Ricky Gervais. He called me after the Traitors. And he was asked to go in.“He called me because I think my name [had been reported as a rumoured contestant] – nothing had been confirmed before we filmed it. He said, ‘Are you doing this Traitors thing?’. I said ‘Yeah, I’m doing it. Stephen Fry is definitely doing it, and Alan Carr is’.”The Office creator then told him he would not be taking part as he was “pretty sure” that the “Faithfuls” would immediately be suspicious about the “bigger names”.“You’re going to wind up getting voted out just because they think you’re a bigger name in the outside world,” Ricky apparently suggested, which turned out to be partly true.“He nailed the ‘Big Dog’ theory,” Jonathan concluded. “And I said, ‘Well, you were right’.”While many of the “bigger names” of the series wound up being “banished” early on in the run – including Clare Balding and Stephen Fry – it’s probably worth pointing out that Alan Carr managed to make it all the way to the end and pull the wool over his fellow contestants’ eyes to wind up winning the whole thing.After the first run proved to be a hit with both viewers and critics, a second season of The Celebrity Traitors is coming in 2026, with several stars already rumoured to be in consideration.MORE TRAITORS:All The Stars Who've Been Rumoured For The Celebrity Traitors Season 2 So FarNick Mohammed Shares How Things Stand In Joe Marler Friendship Since Traitors FinalNick Mohammed Shares Dramatic Part Of Alan Carr's Traitors Win That We Didn't See
