Keir Starmer Condemns 'Tyrant' Putin In Wake Of Trump's Latest Zelenskyy Bust-Up
Keir Starmer has reiterated the UK's support for Ukraine.Keir Starmer has reiterated the UK’s support for Ukraine in the wake of Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s latest bust-up with Donald Trump. The prime minister branded Russian president Vladimir Putin a “tyrant” ahead of another meeting of the coalition of the willing, which is made up of countries backing Kyiv, on Friday. His comments came amid reports that Trump told Zelenskyy to hand over Ukrainian land to Russia or face being “destroyed”.According to the Financial Times, the US president shouted and swore during an angry meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart in the White House last Friday. The talks took place two days after Trump held a telephone conversation with Putin in which the pair agreed to meet in Budapest for fresh peace talks. But while Trump continues to prevaricate on who he is backing in the war, Starmer made clear he is on Ukraine’s side.He said: “I firmly believe Ukraine must be in the strongest possible position before, during and after any ceasefire and that’s why I’m convening the coalition of the willing this week.“We must be resolute in our support for Ukraine, and I remain committed to intensifying our efforts to cripple Putin’s war machine.“Russia’s stalling tactics have shown time and time again that Ukraine is the only party serious about peace. We can all see that Putin is not and he continues to choose violence and destruction.“Tyrants like Putin only respond the strength. We must ramp up the pressure on his economy and defence industry as we did last week with a major package of sanctions until he is ready to make peace.“As winter approaches, we’ll continue to step up our support – humanitarian, financial and military so Ukraine can defend its people and its sovereignty. We cannot lose sight of the fact that Ukraine’s future is our future and the next few days and weeks will be pivotal for the future of European security.”Related...Trump Told Zelenskyy To Hand Over Ukraine Territory Or Be 'Destroyed' By RussiaBritain's Most Senior Army Officer Says Ukraine Cannot Defeat RussiaTrump Says Putin Should Be Allowed To Keep The Land He Has Seized In Ukraine
