Kids Are Saying 'Let's Get Sendy' And Even Gen Alpha Are Scratching Their Heads
Hot off the heels of everything being “six-sevennnnnn”, the youth have another catchphrase that’s baffling parents, teachers and teenagers alike. Just this week, someone took to Reddit’s r/Teachers forum to ask fellow educators if they were hearing kids say “sendy” in the classroom. The teacher said their eighth grade pupils (typically aged 13 or 14 years old) were saying “I’m so sendy” or “you’re not as sendy as me”.“I can’t figure this one out. Anyone have any idea what this means?” they asked. “First day of school and they’re already driving me nuts.” There were a few guesses as to what it could mean. One suggested it derived from snowboarding and means “confident”, to “go big” or “brave”. Another said it came from a podcast: “Back in high school, we used to say ‘let’s send it,’ but ‘let’s get sendy’ seems to be a newer version of that phrase. It basically means to go all out or do something without hesitation.”And then were were those who thought it simply derived from drinking culture.“I asked my high school students. They told me it’s to do a full send of something, but it is originating from a trend where people shotgun a beverage,” said one teacher. “Like chugging the whole thing at once from the bottom.”OK, so what does it mean then?Well, it seems to be evolving on a daily basis. In a TikTok video with over 1 million views, teacher and content creator Mr Philip Lindsay said the phrase “let’s get sendy” comes from an older video which is currently popular among kids where someone says that specific phrase. ″‘Sendy’ or ‘sending it’ is not a new term,” he said. “It’s really popular in extreme sports and it means ‘just go for it’ ... but the phrase is trending and has been paired now with a video of kids pretending to ‘shotgun’ different foods and items.”The teacher added he has no idea how this phrase has turned into the trend, but warned parents to “expect the next couple of weeks to be hearing your kids talking about ‘feeling sendy’, ‘getting sendy’ or even seeing them shotgun different foods like nachos during mealtimes.”Hilariously a lot of the commenters on his video were Gen Alphas who had no idea what it meant either.“I feel like a fraud learning slang from my generation from someone in the generation above me, but you’re my only hope,” said one respondent.“At the old age of 15 I gotta be watching these videos now,” said another. And because things online move oh-so-fast, in an updated video Mr Lindsay said the phrase is now morphing, and kids are saying “six-sendy” (an amalgamation of six-seven and sendy). I need a lie down. Related...There's A New Number Replacing 'Six-Seven' And You're About To Hear A Lot More Of ItKids Keep Saying 'Six-Seven' And Nobody Seems To Know What It MeansWTF Does Washed Mean?
