KPop Demon Hunters Girl Band HUNTR/X Are Slaying The UK Charts Now

HUNTR/X, the fictional girl band in Netflix's KPop Demon Hunters, is the number one act in the UK right nowAfter dominating Netflix’s most-watched chart since its release just over a month ago, those KPop Demon Hunters are now coming for the real-life pop charts. The animated family musical, as its name suggests, centres around a K-pop girl group named HUNTR/X, who also moonlight as demon hunters. However, they meet their match when a rival boyband, the Saja Boys, arrive on the scene, made up of five secret demons seeking world domination.Since KPop Demon Hunters premiered on Netflix at the end of June, the movie has gained a devoted following (at the time of writing, it’s currently still at number two on the platform’s most-watched films list), and its original songs have also become streaming hits.On Friday evening, the movie’s reach hit new heights when it was confirmed by the Official Charts Company that HUNTRX’s signature hit Golden – performed in the movie by Ejae, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami – had reached number one in the UK.Not only is Golden the first K-pop song to reach this accolade since Psy’s Gangnam Style more than a decade ago, it’s also the first time a song from an animated movie has hit number one since We Don’t Talk About Bruno from the Encanto soundtrack did the same three years ago.But Golden isn’t the only KPop Demon Hunters cut to chart in the UK this week. The Saja Boys have not one but two hits in the top 20, with Your Idol at 10 and Soda Pop one position behind at 11.Two songs credited to The Saja Boys have charted in the UK top 20 this weekMeanwhile, the film’s soundtrack album (featuring other numbers from the film including How It’s Done, Take Down and Free) is also at number one in the UK’s official compilations chart for the sixth week running.KPop Demon Hunters is now streaming on Netflix, for those who’ve still not had time to check it out.
