Kremlin Lavishes Even More Praise On Trump Hours After He Called For Putin To Stop Ukraine Attacks
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov Vladimir Putin’s top diplomat has just piled yet more flattery on Donald Trump hours after the US president called for the attacks on Ukraine to stop.Trump issued a rare statement of condemnation for Moscow on Thursday following the Kremlin’s deadly assault on Kyiv which killed at least nine people and injured more than 70 others. In a widely-mocked post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said the attack was “not necessary” and ill-timed.“I am not happy with the Russian strikes on KYIV,” he wrote. “Vladimir, STOP!”This was a surprise, considering Trump usually criticises Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy and falsely blames him for any delays or disruptions to the US-brokered peace negotiations – rather than the actual aggressor, Vladimir Putin.Even so, the Russian president did not publicly respond to Trump’s call.Instead, his foreign minister Sergei Lavrov lavished praise on Trump during an interview with the US outlet CBS cited by Russian state news agency TASS.He said Trump “is probably the only leader on Earth, who recognised the need to address the root causes of this situation.”Putin started the war with his February 2022 invasion and still occupies a fifth of Ukrainian land to this day. However, the Kremlin continues to make baseless accusations that Kyiv is run by a neo-Nazi government.Pointing to the White House’s push for a rapid resolution to the war, Lavrov also praised Trump for aligning with Russia over whether or not Ukraine should be in Nato.Lavrov said: “He said it was a huge mistake to pull Ukraine into Nato, and this was a mistake by the Biden administration, and he wants to rectify this.”The minister suggested Russia is ready to reach an agreement with the US over the war, too, although he warned some elements need to be “fine tuned”.He said: “We are ready to reach a deal. But there are still some specific points, elements of this deal which need to be fine tuned, and we are busy with this exact process.”Lavrov added that there are “several signs that we [Russia and the US] are moving in the right direction”.“The President of the United States believes, and I think rightly so, that we are moving in the right direction,” he said. It’s worth noting that shortly after Trump’s direct plea for the violence to end, Russian forces attacked a residential building in the Donetsk Oblast on Friday morning, killing two people. Related...A Senior Ukrainian Politician Has Said His Country May Have To Concede Land To Putin To Stop The WarTrump Called Out For 'Weak And Petulant' Attempt To Scold Putin Over Latest Ukraine StrikesTrump Says He's Not Happy With Putin, Urges Him To 'STOP' After A Deadly Attack On Kyiv
