Kristen Bell Reacts To Backlash Over Fox News Podcast Using Her Voice
Kristen BellKristen Bell found herself at the centre of backlash this week, when the divisive US network Fox News announced it was launching a new religious podcast featuring the voices of several big-name actors, including the Nobody Wants This star.On Wednesday, Fox News Media unveiled plans for a 52-episode podcast titled The Life Of Jesus, with broadcaster Ainsley Earhardt introducing each instalment and Kristen joining the likes of Sir Brian Cox, John Rhys-Davies and Sean Astin in lending her voice to the project (she was reported to be voicing Jesus’ friend Mary Magdalene, while her fellow actors are set to play the voice of God, the narrator and the apostle Matthew, respectively). When news of the project began spreading on social media, many took issue with the fact that Kristen had appeared to align herself with Fox, a conservative broadcaster which is staunchly pro-Donald Trump. However, a spokesperson for the Frozen actor has now set the record straight, insisting to Rolling Stone that Kristen actually recorded her dialogue 15 years ago for an audiobook version of the New Testament, more than a decade before the footage was then acquired by Fox for its own project. In fact, her team said she only learned about Fox’s podcast at all a day before the project was announced, when she was invited to appear on the news network to talk about it, and insisted that she never gave her permission for her recording to be used in the way it has been.Similarly, Sir Brian Cox’s team said: “Brian recorded audio for a project over a decade ago. He was unaware that the audio would be repurposed for a new podcast series in 2025.“Brian only became aware of the podcast today.”John Rhys-Davies has also maintained he only learned of the new podcast days before it was announced.A spokesperson for Fox News told Rolling Stone: “Gulfstream Studios produced The Life Of Jesus Podcast from The Truth and Life Dramatised Audio Bible, which was licensed by FOX News Audio, with full cooperation and participation by all the actors involved.”Kristen has previously described herself as being non-religious, although she was raised in a “very religious” household, while Sir Brian is a staunch atheist who once slammed the Bible as “essentially patriarchal”, “propaganda” and “one of the worst books ever, for me, for my point of view”.He has also been a vocal critic of Fox News, comparing the organisation to the “devil” in 2021.READ MORE:Kristen Bell Restricts Comments On Questionable Anniversary Post After BacklashBrian Cox Launches Outspoken On-Air Attack On 'Venal And Selfish' Nigel FarageBrian Cox Accuses 'Idiot' Donald Trump Of 'Talking B*****ks' Over Scottish Independence
