Labour Minister's Response To Boris Johnson's Takedown Of New EU Deal Is Dripping In Sarcasm

Former British Prime Minister Boris JohnsonBoris Johnson has been slapped down by a Labour minister over his criticism of the UK’s new deal with the EU.The former Tory prime minister, who oversaw Britain’s official exit from the EU and its subsequent trade deal, dubbedKeir Starmer “the orange ball-chewing manacled gimp of Brussels” for setting up closer ties with the bloc.Writing on X, Johnson said: “Starmer promised at the election that he would not go back on Brexit. He has broken that promise as he broke his promise on tax.“This deal should not be signed, should not be ratified and should never come into force and if it is, the next Conservative government should kick it out forthwith.”But industry minister Sarah Jones dismissed the ex-prime minister’s criticisms as “nonsense”.Speaking to Times Radio on Tuesday, she said sarcastically: “That great, successful prime minister of our time... he’s talking nonsense!”Attacking Johnson’s Brexit deal, she said: “The prize here is that we are going to break down those barriers to trade which has led to companies going under.“When this deal was done, companies went bust. People had to put up their prices, we saw more price rises in the shops, and we want to reverse that.“I think every single industry body on all the major areas of trade have welcomed this, because these were unnecessary burdens on trade that we are pushing aside.”And, pointing to the UK’s new deals with the US and India, Jones said: “We are well and truly back on the world stage with the fastest growing economy in the G7. This will be good for prices and good for stability.”Jones later took aim at Johnson’s successor, short-lived Tory PM Liz Truss who said the “jury’s out” over whether France was a friend or foe in 2022.The minister told ITV’s Good Morning Britain: “The worst of both worlds was when we had a prime minister who couldn’t even say if France was an ally, such entrenched ideological positions that we got absolutely nowhere.”Related...Boris Johnson Criticised The UK-EU Deal And People Reacted Exactly As You’d ExpectWhy Keir Starmer Believes His EU Deal Is A Gamble Worth TakingKeir Starmer Hails UK-EU Deal As Row Rages Over Fishing 'Horror Show'
