Lebanon Abolishes Death Penalty, Becoming First in Middle East to Do So

Lebanon's parliament has voted to abolish the death penalty, making it the first country in the Middle East to do so. Executions will be replaced with life imprisonment or hard labor sentences. The country had not carried out executions since 2004.
