Lisa Kudrow Struggled With Her Friends Character – Until Matt LeBlanc Said This 1 Thing

Lisa KudrowWhen the figurative rain started to pour, Friends actor Matt LeBlanc was there for his co-star Lisa Kudrow, just like the show’s theme song promised.Back in the ’90s, the television show introduced the world to Lisa’s eccentric character, Phoebe Buffay. She quickly became a fan favourite – smelly cats and all – but stepping into Phoebe’s shoes wasn’t exactly a walk in Central Park. During a recent interview for Variety’s Actors on Actors series with her former Clockwatchers co-star Parker Posey, Lisa revealed that portraying Phoebe was “so far from” who she was as a person, and admitted that the role took “work” to portray.“I needed to justify everything she was saying in my head so that it felt like she meant it and it was real to her,” Lisa explained.  Matt LeBlanc and Lisa Kudrow on the set of Friends in 2003“I remember season two or three, I went, ‘Oh my God, I’m not doing the work’,” Lisa recalled.That’s when fellow Friends actor Matt chimed in with some sage words of wisdom: “What’s the matter with you? You’re her. You don’t have to.”From that moment, Lisa said, the work became “fun”.Lisa has opened up about what it was like to film the hit series before. Last year, she clarified a comment made by co-star Jennifer Aniston, who said that Lisa “hated when the audience laughed” during tapings.“No, that’s not exactly ― no, no,” Lisa told Entertainment Tonight. “It irritated me if they would laugh for too long. God bless them.
