Lola Young Cancels Work Commitments 'For The Foreseeable Future' After Turbulent Week
Lola Young at The Ivors earlier this yearBritish singer Lola Young has announced that she is taking a step back from the spotlight for the “foreseeable future” in order to do some “work on myself” and “come back stronger”.It’s been a difficult few days for Lola, who collapsed on stage during a festival performance in the US on Saturday, and cancelled another appearance the following day.Prior to that, a statement credited to the chart-topping performer’s manager was posted on Instagram, claiming she had been advised to pull out of another performance on Friday “due to a sensitive matter”.“Lola is very open about her mental health and there are very occasionally days where myself and my team have to take protective measures to keep her safe,” the statement explained.“She is an incredible person and always takes her fans, career and performances seriously. I can only send huge apologies for the inconvenience caused.”On Tuesday evening, Lola posted a fresh statement on Instagram, announcing she would be “going away for a while”.“It pains me to say I have to cancel everything for the foreseeable future,” the Messy singer said.“Thank you for all the love and support. I’m so sorry to let anyone down who has bought a ticket to see me, it hurts me more than you know.“Obviously you will be entitled to a full refund, I really hope you’ll give me a second chance once I’ve had some time to work on myself and come back stronger.”She signed off the post with the message: “Love you all, Lola.”View this post on InstagramA post shared by 𝕿𝖍𝖊𝖊 𝕷𝖔𝖑𝖆 𝖄𝖔𝖚𝖓𝖌 (@lolayounggg)Lola disclosed in 2022 that she had been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder years earlier, and has since also discovered that she has ADHD.The mental health charity Mind describes schizoaffective disorder as a “mental health problem where you experience psychosis as well as mood symptoms”.Last month, Lola unveiled her third album I’m Only F**king Myself, preceded by the singles One Thing, Not Like That Anymore and Dealer.Help and support:Mind, open Monday to Friday, 9am-6pm on 0300 123 3393.Samaritans offers a listening service which is open 24 hours a day, on 116 123 (UK and ROI - this number is FREE to call and will not appear on your phone bill).CALM (the Campaign Against Living Miserably) offer a helpline open 5pm-midnight, 365 days a year, on 0800 58 58 58, and a webchat service. The Mix is a free support service for people under 25.
