Minister Laughs Off New Football Chant Which Takes Aim At Starmer With 4-Letter Word
Science secretary Peter KyleA cabinet minister has dismissed a new football chant which allegedly calls Keir Starmer a “c***”.A large proportion of the 7,000 England supporters who were watching the World Cup Qualifier against Andorra in Barcelona on Saturday started calling the prime minister a four-letter word in unison during the game. According to The Telegraph, the fans inserted the swear word and Starmer’s name into a modified version of the 1982 song Give It Up, by KC & The Sunshine Band. But when the incident was mentioned to science secretary Peter Kyle on Sky News on Sunday, he just laughed it off.Presenter Trevor Phillips said: “Isn’t it really early in your term of office for that level of unpopularity?”Kyle smiled and said he was not a follower of the sport itself, but suggested: “This is football, it’s football chanting, it’s part of the, uh, spirit of the game.”Phillips pointed to the England manager Thomas Tuchel, who said that is “not acceptable” behaviour from football fans. The presenter added: “The point is, isn’t this a disturbing signal for the government?”“Actually, we have a prime minister that has taken really tough decisions since he came in,” Kyle claimed.“People have to understand that when you win an election, things don’t go back to zero, you start where the others left off.“We’ve had to do difficult things because they [the Conservatives] didn’t make difficult decisions in office, it forced us to take those difficult decisions in office.”Kyle said the government’s spending review, set to be announced on Wednesday, shows “how we are prioritising children, children’s future and the future of the economy”.“So the next time we have an England game, I’m pretty sure they’ll be chanting some pretty nice things about us too,” the minster predicted.Labour has just fallen to its lowest poll rating since the Jeremy Corbyn era of 2019 according YouGov’s latest survey, on just 21%.YouGov also found that Starmer’s popularity declined dramatically last month, falling to its lowest level on record among Labour voters. The proportion of party supporters with a favourable view of the prime minister fell from 62% to 45% between April and May, marking the first time the PM has recorded a negative approval rating among Labour voters.Govt minister Peter Kyle is asked about England football fans at yesterdays game against Andorra chanting "Keir Starmer is a c**t".Kyle laughs it off and says chanting is "part of the spirit of the game" #trevorphillipspic.twitter.com/gl103MrlU1— Saul Staniforth (@SaulStaniforth) June 8, 2025Related...Keir Starmer's Popularity Has Plummeted To Its Lowest Ever LevelFresh Blow For Keir Starmer As Labour's Popularity Slumps To New LowExclusive: Labour Ministers' Popularity In 'Freefall' As Make-Or-Break Budget Looms
