Netanyahu Rejects Growing Pressure From UK, France And Canada Over Gaza

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Benjamin Netanyahu has hit back at the UK, France and Canada over their new call for Israel to halt its military offensive in Gaza.Keir Starmer,Emmanuel Macron and Mark Carney slammed Israel’s “egregious actions” in the Palestinian territory on Monday amid the “intolerable” human suffering.Israel launched a full-scale offensive into Gaza in October 2023 in response to the Hamas attack on Israeli soil where they took 1,200 people killed and 250 others hostage. After 19 months of war in the region, more than 60,000 Palestinians are estimated to have been killed and Gaza is in a humanitarian crisis. The UK, France and Canada – Israeli allies – threatened to initiate joint action last night unless Netanyahu stopped the ongoing attacks.“If Israel does not cease the renewed military offensive and lift its restrictions on humanitarian aid, we will take further concrete actions in response,” they said. The countries pushed for restrictions on humanitarian aid into the area to be lifted following a three-month blockade of food, medicine and other supplies, warning it risks breaching international humanitarian law. They also called for Hamas to release the remaining hostages. But the Israeli prime minister has since responded by saying their words were a “huge prize” for Hamas in their ongoing war.Netanyahu said in a statement: “By asking Israel to end a defensive war for our survival before Hamas terrorists on our borders are destroyed and by demanding a Palestinian state, the leaders in London, Ottawa and Paris are offering a huge prize for the genocidal attack on Israel on October 7 while inviting more such atrocities.”He also claimed “all European leaders” should copy US President Donald Trump’s support for Israel.″The war can end tomorrow if the remaining hostages are released, Hamas lays down its arms, its murderous leaders are exiled and Gaza is demilitarised. No nation can be expected to accept anything less and Israel certainly won’t,” the Israeli PM continued.“This is a war of civilisation over barbarism. Israel will continue to defend itself by just means until total victory is achieved.”Five aid trucks were permitted into Gaza on Tuesday morning amid rising concerns of famine in the region. It comes after Israel broke the latest ceasefire – where around 600 trucks per day entered the territory – in March with a wave of deadly attacks. In response to Netanyahu’s remarks, minister Sarah Jones told LBC that it was still an “intolerable situation” and that there is a “wholly inadequate” amount of aid going into Gaza.“We’ve also made clear we want the return of hostages,” she said, noting that the UK wants a two-state solution.“We condemned in the strongest terms the abhorrent language we had coming out of the Israeli government in terms of permanent displacement of people.“Of course we have to condemn these things and of course we have said we have to take concrete actions, including targeted sanctions.“We need to do this in a way that works across our allies,” Jones said.Related...Trump Defied Israel — But Don't Get Too Excited'Let The Children Eat': Israel Is Starving Gaza To Death, Doctors And Experts WarnIsrael Plans To Seize Gaza Under A New Plan, Officials Say
