Nigel Farage Has Once Again Blamed The West For Provoking Putin To Invade Ukraine
Britain's Reform UK leader Nigel Farage arrives at Southwark Crown Court in London, Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2025, for the sentencing of a man who made a threat to kill him.Nigel Farage has repeated his claim that the West is partly to blame for the war in Ukraine. The Reform UK leader said “the endless eastward expansion of Nato and the European Union” had contributed to Vladimir Putin’s decision to invade Russia’s neighbour. His remarks, in an interview with Bloomberg, echo comments he made in an interview with the BBC’s Nick Robinson before last year’s general election. He said: “We provoked this war ... of course, it’s his fault, he’s used what we’ve done as an excuse.“Very interestingly, once again, 10 years ago when I predicted this – by the way, I’m the only person in British politics that predicted what would happen - and of course everyone said I was a pariah for daring to suggest it.”Elsewhere in his Bloomberg interview, however, Farage took his toughest stance yet on Putin, insisting he would be prepared to “shoot down” Russian jets if he becomes prime minister.“Clearly, Putin is not a rational man,” he said. “The idea that I’m soft on this is just nonsense.”Farage added: “Obviously, Putin is a very bad dude.“I was really hoping that Trump would bring Putin to heel, that some kind of compromise could be struck, as it’s just been recently struck with Gaza and Israel. Clearly, that is not going to happen.”Asked what he would do if Russian jets crossed into allied airspace, Farage said: “Gotta shoot them down.”Sophia Gaston, a Senior Fellow at King’s College London, told HuffPost UK: “Farage has realised he’s on the wrong side of the argument on Ukraine, but it’s not credible to claim you support its defence while giving credence to Russian propaganda about the origins of its illegal invasion.“Russia started this war because of its imperialistic ambitions and belief in its right to use brute force to achieve them. NATO expanded in response to Russia’s belligerence, not the other way around.“It’s right for Farage to be held to account for these views, which are dangerous and misaligned with the instincts of the British people.”Related...Nigel Farage On Course To Be Prime Minister As Labour And Tories Collapse, New Mega-Poll ShowsNigel Farage Blasted For Saying He 'Doesn't Know' If Paracetamol Causes Autism'Beyond Cruel': Woman Who Has Been In UK For 25 Years Slams Farage Deportation Plan
