'No-Show Nigel': Farage Accused Of Not Attending His Own Media Event
Reform UK leader Nigel Farage and Councillor Duncan Massey speak to media as a protester stands in the background on June 2, 2025Nigel Farage has been accused of failing to attend his own planned media event in Scotland.According to reports, journalists waited for hours outside Hamilton’s Premier Inn on Monday having been told by Reform UK they would meet the party leader there on a walkabout with constituents.Farage was expected to be rubbing shoulders with voters in the Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse constituency ahead of Thursday’s by-election.Reform UK is hoping to cause a political earthquake by winning a seat in the Scottish Parliament this week, although Labour and the SNP are currently the frontrunners. But, according to Scottish newspapers The Herald and The National, he decided to speak to a few voters at a Larkhall pub instead, in a more lowkey affair. His surprising absence reportedly caused friction among the crowds waiting for him in Hamilton. Some protesters even shouted “no-show Nigel” outside Reform UK’s campaign office. When asked about Farage’s absence from Hamilton, a Reform spokesperson told HuffPost UK that Farage did four campaign stops in Scotland yesterday, and took “26 questions from 16 journalists at a press conference and also met members of the public on walkabout in Larkhall.”Farage’s alleged change of plans came after anti-Reform UK demonstrators had tried to disrupt his press conference in Aberdeen that morning by gathering outside the venue. The party leader then accused The Herald’s political editor Andrew Learmonth of colluding with the protesters in front of the rest of the media pack.Farage said to Learmonth: “It’s funny isn’t it that you come and your newspaper also manages to have another one of your correspondents as a protest correspondent, so you know more about this than we did.”When the journalist denied any involvement with the demonstration, Farage said he believed him – but added: “This location was only sent to you [journalists] it wasn’t sent on the public wires.“We didn’t put it out to our membership and yet [the protesters] knew. It came from one of you.”This was not the first time the politician has faced backlash in Scotland. When Farage went on a campaign trip to Scotland in 2013 as Ukip leader, he had to be given a police escort out of Edinburgh because of the numbers of people protesting his appearance.Related...Nigel Farage Accused Of Using Trump Tactics After Attacking Journalist At Press ConferenceNigel Farage Sparks Fresh Race Row By Making Another Bizarre Claim About Labour LeaderNigel Farage Accused Of 'Fantasy Economics' Over Plan To Cut Public Spending By £400 Billion
