Putin Ally Tries To Turn The Tables On The West With 1 Bleak Claim Amid Peace Talks

Russian President Vladimir Putin, right, flanked by CEO of state-controlled Russian oil company Rosneft Igor SechinA top ally for Vladimir Putin has alleged the West is in more economic danger than Russia due to the sanctions it has levelled against Moscow.Entrepreneur Igor Sechin claimed “not all Western politicians realise the risks they face” by restricting their own access to Russia’s markets. His remarks come after Donald Trump unveiled a 28-point peace plan meant to settle the Ukraine war last week. But the framework was instantly criticised by Western allies for expecting major capitulation from Ukraine, including demands for it to give up even more land.Prime minister Keir Starmer said on Tuesday elements of the plan were “not acceptable”.The European Commission’s vice-president Kaja Kallas told the BBC on Tuesday that it was time to put pressure on Russia because its own economy will soon be at breaking point. But, Sechin claimed it is actually the West who faces more financial peril. He said: “The West’s continued aggressive policy of sanctions against both Russia and China will undoubtedly bring about another economic crisis in Western countries.“Not all Western politicians realise the risks they face.”According to Reuters, he said: “Let me remind you that, like China, Russia has been under increasing external pressure for many years,“The primary goal of this pressure is to push our country out of the global market.“The experience of the last ten years has shown that these attempts are doomed to failure.”Europe has struggled with a hike in energy prices after trying to wean itself off Russia’s cheap energy exports. But Russia faces far greater struggles with its economy, according to officials, because it needs to sell fossil fuels just to pay for its grinding offensive in Ukraine. As the EU’s Kallas said: “Their national funds are almost completely depleted and 25% of Russian companies are in the threat of bankruptcy. Their economic situation is incredibly bad.”Meanwhile, the UK’s Ministry of Defence warned that Russia is also increasing its censorship on the general public – even cutting off telecoms access.“The Russian state has increasingly sought to control, censor and constrict its domestic information environment,” the MoD said in its latest update on X. “New proposed amendments to Russia’s communications legislation would allow the FSB to cut off individual telecom subscribers without court order, citing ‘state security’.“The draft, which has cleared a key government commission, builds on the 2019 ‘Sovereign Internet Law’, which enabled Russia’s isolation from global networks, as well as domestic traffic control and surveillance.”“As the federal executive agency responsible for monitoring, controlling and censoring Russian mass media, Roskomnadzor’s powers have also expanded to reroute or sever internet access during perceived threats.”Ukrainian authorities have called the move “a tool of repression, masked as security”.Related...EU's Top Diplomat Says Putin Is 'Near Breaking Point' So Trump Must Change Ukraine DealTrump's Peace Deal For Ukraine Is Drawing 2 Deeply Worrying ComparisonsPutin Making A Mockery Of Trump's Peace Plan As Ukraine Attack Kills 4 People
