Reform UK Chair Says Party Aims To 'Remoralise' Young People After Local Election Success
Zia Yusuf on Sky NewsThe chairman of Reform UK has vowed to “remoralise” young people and “end all this woke nonsense” following his party’s success in the local elections.Nigel Farage’s party won 677 out of 1,600 councillor seats last week along with the Runcorn and Helsby by-election in a transformative moment for British politics. As the right-wing party continues to rise, Reform’s chairman Zia Yusuf told Sky News’ Sunday with Trevor Phillips just how they want to change the country. He said: “What we need to do is instil a sense of pride in the United Kingdom, a sense of pride in our history – and right now there is a... demoralisation campaign that has happened for young people.“One in five 18 to 25 year olds now support Reform because they’re sick and tired of it.”Yusuf claimed the UK is “competing with countries who don’t tell their young people that they should hate their country, that they should be ashamed of their history”.The party chairman said Reform believe children should “not be indoctrinated to hate their country”,Yusuf also told The Sunday Times that Reform would put up more statues of great British figures, and put an end to “all this woke nonsense”.“How many young people know who Isambard Kingdom Brunel is? Look at the character assassination that has occurred on the legacy of Sir Winston Churchill,” he said.“The fact that they have to cover up his statue because they don’t want to provoke protesters. I mean that’s the sort of utterly indefensible so-called leadership that we’ve had and young people feel that in their bones.”He claimed that Farage’s message is “resonating” with younger generations, who feel “very smothered by a finger-wagging sort of teaching class”.Related...A Reform UK Councillor Has Been Suspended By The Party 3 Days After Being ElectedReform UK’s Election Success Wasn’t About Blocking Closer EU Ties, Poll SaysReform UK's First Mayor Walks Away From Sky News Interview In Clash Over 'Appropriate' Politics
