Rod Stewart Made A Surprising Admission About His Glastonbury 'Legends' Slot Pay
Sir Rod Stewart on stage at Glastonbury on SundayAs ever, the Glastonbury “Legends” slot proved to be one of the festival’s biggest talking points over the weekend. This year, Sir Rod Stewart occupied the coveted Sunday afternoon slot, which has previously seen the likes of Kylie Minogue, Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie and Diana Ross singing through a set made up of their biggest hits.In the run-up to Glastonbury, Sir Rod made no secret of how excited he was to have been asked back onto the Pyramid Stage, even claiming during an interview with Radio Times that it was costing him more to perform than he was actually being paid.“It’s going to cost me £300,000 to do it,” he claimed, referring to flying over his own band and musicians to Worthy Farm for the evening. “And they only pay you about 120,000 quid. So, it’s going to cost me.”He previously told TalkSport: “I’ve got to bring all my band back from America, of course Glastonbury don’t pay for that. But I don’t care if it cost me a million dollars, I would have done it. It’s a great honour. It really is the greatest honour.”A piece published in The Independent last week claimed that acts are paid substantially less to perform at Glastonbury than other festivals.Meanwhile, the Maggie May crooner also made a deal with Glastonbury organisers allowing him to perform for 15 minutes longer than most musicians in the “Legends” slot would receive.Sir Rod Stewart performing Sailing at the end of his Glastonbury set“They only gave me an hour-and-a-quarter slot. So I begged them: can I do another 15 minutes? Because usually I play for two hours,” he explained, reasoning that “there’s a lot of songs that people love that I won’t be able to play” in the 75 minutes originally offered to him (indeed, his set wound up clocking in at just shy of 90 minutes).Sir Rod’s Glastonbury set included hits from across his career, including Tonight’s The Night, Young Turks, Do Ya Think I’m Sexy? and Sailing, as well as guest appearances from Mick Hucknall, Lulu and his former Faces bandmate Ronnie Wood. However, prior to the festival, the Grammy winner found himself in hot water over an interview he gave to The Times in which he said that the UK had “to give [Nigel] Farage a chance”.READ MORE:17 Must-See Moments From This Year's Glastonbury That You Might Have MissedThis Is Why Glastonbury Festival Won't Be Back Next YearCharli XCX Fires Back At Glastonbury Performance Critics: 'Yawn'
