Rumer Willis Shares Emotional Update On How Her Dad Bruce Is Doing

Bruce and Rumer Willis pictured together in 2013Rumer Willis has shared an update on how her dad Bruce Willis is doing since he was diagnosed with a rare form of dementia.Earlier this week, Rumer – the eldest daughter of Bruce and his ex-wife Demi Moore – took part in an “ask me anything” session on her Instagram, during which one of her followers asked: “How’s your dad doing?”“People always ask me this question and I think it’s a hard one to answer,” she responded in a video shared to her followers. “The truth is that anybody with FTD is not doing great, but he’s doing OK in terms of somebody who is dealing with frontotemporal dementia.”Following this, Rumer went on to explain that the question of how Bruce is doing is difficult to answer as parameters “don’t really work anymore in my mind” when it comes to her dad’s condition.“I’m so happy and grateful that I still get to go and hug him,” she shared. “I’m so grateful that when I go over there and I give him a hug, whether he recognises me or not, that he can feel the love I’ve given him and I can feel it back from him.”She added: “I still see a spark of him, and he can feel the love that I’m giving, so that feels really nice.”Rumer Willis with her dad, Bruce Willis, and stepmum, Emma Heming WillisIn 2022, Bruce’s family issued a joint statement – signed by his wife, Emma Heming Willis, his ex, Demi Moore and his children – to announce that he had been diagnosed with aphasia, “which is impacting his cognitive abilities”.The following year, the family disclosed that the Die Hard actor’s condition had progressed to frontotemporal dementia. “FTD is a cruel disease that many of us have never heard of and can strike anyone,” they wrote in the statement. “For people under 60, FTD is the most common form of dementia, and because getting the diagnosis can take years, FTD is likely much more prevalent than we know. “Today there are no treatments for the disease, a reality that we hope can change in the years ahead.”On the NHS website, FTD is described as a rare form of dementia that can cause personality and behaviour changes, problems with mental abilities and issues with memory, as well as affecting one’s ability to communicate verbally.Bruce’s wife Emma Heming Willis has previously spoken about the backlash she has received for decisions involving her husband’s health, while Demi has applauded her for adapting to being his caregiver in recent years.READ MORE:Bruce Willis' Wife Opens Up About How Their Daughters Have Been Affected By His Dementia DiagnosisBruce Willis' Wife Takes On Critics After Sharing That He No Longer Lives In Their Family HomeBruce Willis' Daughter Tallulah Responds To Criticism Over Instagram Posts Featuring Her Dad
