Ruth Jones Speaks Out To Confirm Split From Husband David Peet After 25 Years
Ruth Jones and David Peet at an event in 2011Ruth Jones has confirmed that she and her husband of more than 25 years, David Peet, have parted ways.In a joint statement released on Wednesday, the Gavin & Stacey star and TV, film and radio producer announced that they “amicably went [their] separate ways 18 months ago and are now legally separated”.The pair insisted that they are still “good friends” in the wake of their split, adding: “Since our separation, Ruth is living in London and David is living in Canada, where he is in a new relationship.”Ruth and David tied the knot in 1999, after which the Bafta winner became a stepmum to her now-ex’s two children from a previous relationship.Over the course of their marriage, the two collaborated on a number of projects, most notably Gavin & Stacey and Stella, another British sitcom written by Ruth in which she also played the title role.Last year, Ruth reprised the role of Nessa Jenkins in the much-hyped Gavin & Stacey finale, which aired on Christmas Day.Ruth’s character took centre stage in the episode, which earned her the Best Female Comedy Performance award at the TV Baftas last month.Ruth Jones celebrating her TV Bafta win in MayMore than a decade earlier, she had been nominated in the same category for her work on Stella.Earlier this week, it was announced that work was underway on Ruth’s next project, a period drama set in the same universe as Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice, called The Other Bennet Sister.The 10-part BBC series recently began shooting in Wales, with Ruth and Richard E Grant set to portray Mr And Mrs Bennet, alongside a cast that includes Call The Midwife and Bridgerton star Ella Bruccoleri in the main role as Mary Bennet.Doctor Who’s Varada Sethu has also joined the show as a new character, Ann Baxter, first introduced in Janice Hadlow’s novel of the same name.Hold on to your bonnets!
