Sadiq Khan Tears Into Trump After President's Attack: 'He Is Racist, Sexist And Islamophobic'
Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, upon his arrival to attend a major tech event at the John Randle Centre in Lagos Nigeria, Tuesday July 15, 2025. Sadiq Khan has hit back at Donald Trump after the US president launched another outspoken attack on the London mayor.Trump found time to slam the Labour politician during a speech at the United Nations’ general assembly in New York, calling him a “terrible mayor” who wanted to introduce “Sharia Law” to the city. The remarks came just days after Trump visited the UK for a state visit.“I look at London, where you have a terrible mayor, terrible, terrible mayor, and it’s been changed, it’s been so changed,” he said.“Now they want to go to Sharia Law. But you are in a different country, you can’t do that.”Asked by Sky News to respond to these remarks, Khan said he appears to be “living rent free inside Donald Trump’s head”.“I think President Trump has shown he is racist, he is sexist, he is misogynistic and he is Islamophobic,” the Muslim mayor said.“When people say things, act in a certain way, behave in a certain way, you’ve got to believe them,” he added. On Trump’s accusations that he is a “terrible mayor”, Khan just said he was “thankful” there were rising numbers of Americans relocating to London.Asked if he was concerned by the way prime minister Keir Starmer has been trying to get close to Trump, Khan said he could see the “benefit” of aligning with the States.“One of the things about having a special relationship, it’s akin to having a best friend. When you have a best friend, you should expect more from them. It’s very different from an acquaintance,” Khan said.He claimed this bond allows you to “call them out when you think they’re wrong”, adding: “I think President Trump is wrong in very many different ways.”His wording was notably stronger than the remarks released by Khan’s spokesperson yesterday. He said: “We are not going to dignify his appalling and bigoted comments with a response.“London is the greatest city in the world, safer than major US cities, and we’re delighted to welcome the record number of US citizens moving here.”Ministers have also stood clearly by Khan after Trump’s attack, with work and pensions secretary Pat McFadden insisting that the president’s comments were a “misreading of our great capital city”.Health secretary Wes Streeting wrote on X that he was “proud” of Khan.″Sadiq Khan is not trying to impose Sharia Law on London.“This is a Mayor who marches with Pride, who stands up for difference of background and opinion, who’s focused on improving our transport, our air, our streets, our safety, our choices and chances. Proud he’s our Mayor,” Streeting wrote.Khan and Trump have a long-running feud dating back to the president’s first term in the White House.Just before the American touched down in the States last week, the mayor accused him of “fanning the flames of the far-right” and called on London to reject his “politics of fear”."I think President Trump has shown he is racist, he is sexist, he is misogynistic, and he is Islamophobic."London Mayor Sir Sadiq Khan has responded to a series of verbal attacks from Donald Trump.Latest ➡️ https://t.co/dPeHk3ZX7L📺 Sky 501, Virgin 602 and Freeview 233 pic.twitter.com/PZ4gSWTkCY— Sky News (@SkyNews) September 24, 2025Related...Donald Trump Accuses Sadiq Khan Of Introducing Sharia Law To London In Rambling UN SpeechMinister Downplays Trump's Claim That He Stopped Sadiq Khan From Coming Near His State VisitTrump Claims He Got Sadiq Khan Banned From State Banquet: 'I Didn't Want Him There'
