Saturday Night Live Comedian Finally Reacts To Aimee Lou Wood's Comments About 'Mean' Sketch

Sarah ShermanSaturday Night Live comedian Sarah Sherman has spoken out for the first time after Aimee Lou Wood criticised one of her sketches.Last month, Sarah parodied Aimee’s character in The White Lotus by donning a wig and fake teeth, and attempting an exaggerated Manchester accent. She was also heard saying: “Fluoride? What’s that?”The following morning, the former Sex Education star admitted she’d found the skit “mean and unfunny”, writing on Instagram: “Take the piss for sure – that’s what the show is about – but there must be a cleverer, more nuanced, less cheap way?”She later added: “The joke was about fluoride. I have big gap teeth, not bad teeth.“I don’t mind caricature – I understand that’s what SNL is. But the rest of the skit was punching up and I/Chelsea was the only one punched down on.”Aimee Lou Wood as Chelsea in The White LotusSpeaking to Vanity Fair in an interview published almost a month after the sketch aired, Sarah claimed: “I was excited to play her because she’s so iconic, her character is so iconic, and I fucking obviously never meant to hurt anyone’s feelings.“Never in a million years did I get into comedy to make anyone upset. I feel terrible that anyone would feel bad.”Aimee previously revealed that Sarah had sent her flowers after her comments about the sketch, having also told her followers: “[This was] not [Sarah Sherman’s] fault. Not hating on her, hating on the concept.”Sarah Sherman in character in the White Lotus parody sketch on SNL last monthSpeaking on the red carpet of the Met Gala last week, Aimee said the furore around the SNL sketch had grown “very out of control”.“My whole thinking was, I saw that people were angry about it, and I could either say something and just have it be said, and then I won’t spiral inwardly, and feel terrible about myself,” the Bafta winner explained.“But I thought I’d just say something really simple and balanced, and then the next minute – ‘Aimee Lou Wood crying in the street over SNL skit’. I wasn’t crying over the SNL skit, I was crying about something completely unrelated. It all got quite out of control.”READ MORE:Walton Goggins Speaks Out About Rumoured Aimee Lou Wood Fall-OutAimee Lou Wood Reacts To Patrick Schwarzenegger 'Nepo Baby' CommentsAimee Lou Wood Thanks Saturday Night Live Comedian For 'Beautiful' Gesture After 'Mean' Sketch
