'Shame On You': David Lammy Heckled At Vigil For Synagogue Attack Victims
David Lammy at the vigil in ManchesterDavid Lammy has been heckled and booed by mourners at a vigil for the victims of the Manchester synagogue attack.Members of the crowd shouted “shame on you”, “go to Palestine, leave us alone” and “you have blood on your hands” at the grim-faced deputy prime minister. He was standing alongside home secretary Shabana Mahmood at the vigil, which took place a day after two people were killed and three others seriously injured at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue. The terrifying incident took place on Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the year in the Jewish calendar. The dead men were named on Friday as Adrian Daulby, 53, and Melvin Cravitz, 66.Greater Manchester Police revealed later that one of them had died as a result of being accidentally shot by an armed officer as he gunned down the attacker, Jihad Al-Shamie.David Lammy is booed at a vigil for victims of the Manchester synagogue attacks, with cries of "go to Palestine" and "shame on you" pic.twitter.com/4upeg5ibdG— Saul Staniforth (@SaulStaniforth) October 3, 2025Despite the heckles, Lammy told the vigil “we must stand in grief, in solidarity and in defiance”.He said: “Today our hearts, our thoughts, our prayers must be with the families of those who were killed, and of course, with this community, this Jewish community, both here in Manchester and in Heaton Park Synagogue.“Right across our nation, and as the Member of Parliament for Tottenham, I know the suffering in Crumpsall is all the same as the pain, the worry and the frightened faces in my own constituency and in the area of Stamford Hill – one of the historic homes of the Jewish community in this country.“In that sense, London and Manchester are twin communities grieving as one, and the whole nation is with them.”In an address to the nation from Downing Street on Thursday evening, Starmer said the UK is facing a “rising” tide of anti-semitism and declared that “Britain must defeat it once again”.But Israeli foreign minister Gideon Sa’ar said his country “expect more than words from the Starmer government”, and said Britain had not done enough to tackle Jew hatred in the country. In a statement on X, he said: “The truth must be told: blatant and rampant antisemitic and anti-Israeli incitement, as well as calls of support for terror, have recently become a widespread phenomenon in the streets of London, in cities across Britain, and on its campuses.“The authorities in Britain have failed to take the necessary action to curb this toxic wave of antisemitism and have effectively allowed it to persist.“We expect more than words from the Starmer government. We expect and demand a change of course, effective action, and enforcement against the rampant antisemitic and anti-Israeli incitement in Britain.”Related...Synagogue Attack: Shabana Mahmood Urges Pro-Palestine Protesters Not To March This WeekendSynagogue Attack: Israel Says Keir Starmer Must Do More To Tackle 'Toxic Wave Of Anti-Semitism'Starmer Vows Britain Will Defeat 'Rising' Tide Of Anti-Semitism After Terror Attack On Synagogue
