'Show Some Humanity': Starmer Urges Pro-Palestine Protesters Not To Attend October 7 Demos
Keir Starmer and Shabana Mahmood visit the Greater Manchester Police headquarters in Manchester the day after the synagogue attack.Keir Starmer has called on pro-Palestine protesters to show “humanity” and not attend demonstrations planned for the anniversary of the October 7 attacks on Israel.Universities across the UK are due to host protests on Tuesday, exactly two years after Hamas launched its deadly assault. They will also take place just days after the terrorist attack on a synagogue in Manchester which left two people dead and another three seriously injured. The prime minister’s spokesman said those planning to attend the demos should think again. He said: “The demonstrations in support of Palestine Action that we saw over the weekend and have been talked about ahead of tomorrow are going ahead despite the pleas, grief and fears that have been felt by the Jewish community.“As the home secretary said, people should demonstrate humanity. Just because there is a freedom to protest doesn’t mean that you should necessarily go ahead with these gatherings, given the context.”He added: “In all cases people should demonstrate humanity and we should remember the heinous terrorist attack on Israel on October 7 and that should be front of all of our minds tomorrow.“Very clearly on the back of the horrendous terrorist attack in Manchester the scenes of seeing people immediately out on the streets within hours and days was a sight that is not British, it is not patriotic and does not show the level of humanity there should be at a time when this whole country is united in feeling devastated at the horrendous attack on the Jewish community.”Meanwhile, shadow justice secretary Robert Jenrick said tomorrow’s planned demos were “a fucking disgrace”.Speaking at the Conservative conference in Manchester, he said: “There are protests being scheduled in universities for October 7. I think that’s a fucking disgrace, frankly. Absolute disgrace.“I would say to the people thinking of doing that: show some common decency. This is not Britain. Britain is better than that.“Think of British Jews, people who might be fearful and lonely and afraid right now, and call off those protests.”🚨🎥 WATCH: Robert Jenrick calls the pro-Palestine protests scheduled in universities on October 7th a "fucking disgrace"pic.twitter.com/pempONWnh4— Politics UK (@PolitlcsUK) October 6, 2025Related...Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood Says Synagogue Attack Shows There Is A 'Problem' With Integration'Shame On You': David Lammy Heckled At Vigil For Synagogue Attack VictimsSynagogue Attack: Shabana Mahmood Urges Pro-Palestine Protesters Not To March This Weekend
