Sky News Presenter Clashes With Zia Yusuf Over Claim Starmer Is 'Inciting Violence' Against Farage
Zia Yusuf and Wilfred Frost on Sky NewsA Sky News presenter clashed with Reform UK’s policy chief after he accused Keir Starmer of trying to “incite violence” against Nigel Farage.Wilfred Frost told Zia Yusuf he was making “an enormous leap” with his conclusion, which comes after the prime minister and other Labour ministers claimed Reform’s immigration policies are “racist”.Yusuf claimed that in the past fortnight, parliamentary officials have reduced Farage’s personal protection budget by 75%.“It was was two weeks ago, as people know, that we had the tragic assassination of Charlie Kirk, the most high profile political assassination in recent memory,” Yusuf said on Sky News.“The prime minister knows precisely what he’s doing. He knows he cannot beat Nigel at the ballot box, we’ve seen the most extraordinary campaign over 48 hours to demonise Nigel and he is absolutely inciting violence against him.”But Frost told him: “Language is very important and this week more than ever we’re all focused on how important language is. Inflammatory might be a legitimate word, but inciting violence is encouraging others to commit an unlawful act of violence. He did not do that.”Starmer said on Sunday that Reform plans to end indefinite leave to remain status, which could see immigrants deported even if they have lived in the UK for decades, was “racist and immoral”.Frost said: “The government would say that their intention is to beat Nigel Farage at the ballot box, they’re focusing on a policy that they would argue is racist. You concluded by saying he was intentionally inciting violence. “Are you really coming on here to say you think the prime minister wants harm to come to Nigel Farage?”Yusuf replied: “The stakes are too high for me to mince my words. I think Keir Starmer knows that he cannot beat Nigel Farage at the ballot box and he has decided to embark on a campaign that is inciteful of violence against him.”But the presenter told him that was “an enormous leap” and asked again: “Are you saying you think the prime minister wishes harm on Nigel Farage?”As Yusuf failed to give a straight answer, the presenter said: “Please answer the question. Do you think the prime minister wishes harm on Nigel Farage? This is really important to clarify.”Once again, Yusuf said: “I think he knows that he cannot beat him at the ballot box so has decided to use this inflammatory language, along with his cabinet, to incite violence against him.”Frost told him again: “I’m sorry Zia, it’s an enormous leap.”Yusuf replied: “I have seen people try to attack Nigel, try to attack our supporters and our members, so I take great issue with the notion that this is some great leap.”He added: “There are millions of people in this country who, if anything was to happen to Nigel Farage, would hold the prime minister squarely responsible for his actions.”Asked to respond to Yusuf’s claims, a House of Commons spokesperson told HuffPost UK: “The ability of Members and their staff to perform their Parliamentary duties safely, both on and off the estate, is fundamental to our democracy.“Any assessment of an individual MPs’ security arrangements or advice is subject to a rigorous risk-based assessment, conducted by security professionals and with input from a range of professional authorities.“Whilst these are naturally kept under continuous review, we do not comment on specific details so as not to compromise the safety of MPs, parliamentary staff or members of the public.”Related...LBC Presenter Mocks Nigel Farage's Claim Starmer Is Inciting Violence Against HimNigel Farage Accuses Keir Starmer Of Inciting Violence Against Reform SupportersKeir Starmer Tells Nigel Farage: 'We Will Fight You With Everything We Have'
