Starmer Adds To Mounting Calls For Andrew To Give Evidence Over Epstein
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly Prince Andrew, and Keir StarmerKeir Starmer has urged anyone “with relevant information” about the case around dead paedophile Jeffrey Epstein to come forward, piling yet more pressure on Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.The former prince has been called to give evidence about his friendship with Epstein before the US Congress, but he has missed the two-week deadline. The US is currently unpicking the late disgraced financier’s connections to the rich and powerful after Congress passed a measure ordering the US justice department to release all of its files on Epstein – with Donald Trump’s approval.Speaking to reporters on the way to the G20 summit in South Africa, Starmer said: “Anybody who has got relevant information in relation to these kinds of cases should give evidence.”Asked directly if that applies to Andrew in the Epstein case, the prime minister said: “In the end, that will be a decision for him. But my general position is if you have relevant information you should be prepared to share it.”These remarks broke long-standing political convention that the government does not comment on the royal family. It comes after King Charles decided to strip Andrew of his title – which he has had since birth – last month over his friendship with Epstein.Congress cannot force foreigners to testify. But a member of the US oversight committee, Congressman Suhas Subramanyam, told the Mail on Sunday that Starmer was “right” and Andrew should offer evidence. He said: “This is an opportunity for Andrew to clear his name if he hasn’t done anything wrong, and deliver long-awaited justice to the victims.”A lawyer for 27 of the alleged Epstein victims, Gloria Allred, told the newspaper this was Andrew’s “opportunity” to help the survivors. She said the King should also encourage his brother to step forward, “because it is the right thing to do,” adding: “Andrew’s silence is deafening.”Andrew has been accused of having sex with one of Epstein’s self-proclaimed “sex slave”, the late Virginia Giuffre, when she was just a teenager.Andrew has always denied any allegations of wrongdoing.Related...Trump Weighs In On Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor's Fall From GraceJeremy Vine Predicts Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor Could Be In An American Jail Within 5 YearsIs It Finally All Over?
