'Summerween' Has Gone Viral – It's The Perfect Holiday For Sun-Haters Like Me

So, what about when you combine the two? Well, Summerween – an event that began in the Disney TV show Gravity Falls – is one such example, and it’s all over my social media feed right now. Surprisingly, I love it. But what is “Summerween”, and how should you celebrate it? What is Summerween? Summerween is celebrated yearly in the fictional town of Gravity Falls, Oregon, and occurs because the animated residents of the show love Halloween so much that they wanted to celebrate it twice. Legend tells of the “Summerween Trickster”, who lurks around the village on the lookout for children who don’t have enough Summerween spirit. In Gravity Falls, it tends to be celebrated on June 22, however some people have begun observing the day in real life throughout the summer. What are some easy Summerween recipes?The Gravity Falls characters make “Jack-o-melons” in place of “Jack-o-lanterns” – replacing the pumpkin with a hollowed-out melon. Basically, the theme is Halloween decorations using seasonal fare.Some other options include white chocolate-draped strawberries, decorated like spooky masks, or ghoulish bananas with chocolate chip “eyes”.You can replace the “Jack-o-melon” with a pineapple or clementine, as this Redditor suggests. Cheese, with eyes and mouths cut out, looks suitably spooky on a summer BBQ burger too.
