Sydney Sweeney’s Political Party Affiliation Revealed Amid American Eagle Backlash
Sydney SweeneySydney Sweeney’s political affiliation has been revealed amid backlash over her controversial American Eagle campaign.Multipleoutlets reported over the weekend that the Euphoria star registered as a Republican voter in Florida, just months before Donald Trump took on his second presidential term. The former White Lotus actor has been registered to the Republican Party of Florida since June 2024, Buzzfeed confirmed after viewing publicly available voter registration records. HuffPost UK has contacted Sydney Sweeney’s team for comment.Sydney has faced scrutiny in the past week over her ad with the American clothing company. In one video for the “great jeans” campaign, Sydney, who has blue eyes and blonde hair, says: “Genes are passed down from parent to offspring, often determining traits like eye colour, personality, and even hair colour. My jeans are blue.”Social media users slammed the ad’s wordplay, accusing its messaging of glorifying whiteness. Others linked the ad to eugenics, the racist and inaccurate theory that human genetics can be improved through selective and controlled breeding of populations. The internet also crucified the timing of Sydney’s ad amid Trump’s administration’s dissolution of diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives in the country. Following this, the backlash only intensified when White House communications director Steven Cheung defended the ad on X, formerly Twitter.  “Cancel culture run amok,” Cheung wrote in a tweet alongside a screenshot of an MSNBC op-ed titled: “Sydney Sweeney’s ad shows an unbridled cultural shift toward whiteness.”Cheung added: “This warped, moronic, and dense liberal thinking is a big reason why Americans voted the way they did in 2024. They’re tired of this bullshit.”American Eagle later addressed the discourse over the ad in a statement on its Instagram account. “‘Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans’ is and always was about the jeans. Her jeans. Her story,” the statement read. “We’ll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone.”Three years ago, Sydney drew criticism after her brother, Trent, posted photos of guests wearing MAGA-style hats and “Blue Lives Matter” tops at a 60th birthday celebration for their mum.The Anyone But You actor then responded to the chatter by asking social media users to “stop making assumptions”. “You guys this is wild. An innocent celebration for my mum’s milestone 60th birthday has turned into an absurd political statement, which was not the intention,” Sydney wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter, in August 2022. “Please stop making assumptions.” READ MORE:Sydney Sweeney Is Facing A Backlash Over Her New American Eagle Campaign.
