(James Manning, Pool Photo via AP)Israel has said Keir Starmer must do more to combat the “toxic wave of anti-semitism” in the UK following Thursday’s terror attack on a synagogue in Manchester. Two people were killed and three others seriously injured after Jihad Al-Shamie, a British citizen of Syrian descent, drove into a group of people outside the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue before launching a knife attack. The atrocity took place on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar. The dead men have been named as Adrian Daulby, 53, and Melvin Cravitz, 66.Three people have been arrested on suspicion of planning a terror attack in connection with the killings. In an address to the nation from Downing Street on Thursday evening, Starmer said the UK is facing a “rising” tide of anti-semitism and declared that “Britain must defeat it once again”.But Israeli foreign minister Gideon Sa’ar said his country “expect more than words from the Starmer government”, and said Britain had not done enough to tackle Jew hatred in the country. In a statement on X, he said: “The truth must be told: blatant and rampant antisemitic and anti-Israeli incitement, as well as calls of support for terror, have recently become a widespread phenomenon in the streets of London, in cities across Britain, and on its campuses.“The authorities in Britain have failed to take the necessary action to curb this toxic wave of antisemitism and have effectively allowed it to persist.“We expect more than words from the Starmer government. We expect and demand a change of course, effective action, and enforcement against the rampant antisemitic and anti-Israeli incitement in Britain.”Relations between Israel and the UK have been strained in recent months, most notably as a result of the Labour government’s decision to recognise the state of Palestine. The country’s president, Isaac Herzog, said he had expressed his concerns about rising anti-semitism in the UK in a letter to King Charles. He wrote on X: “This vile act of terror against the Jewish community, against worshippers at prayer, on the holiest day of the year for Jews, is a crime which must be condemned by all.“Just a few days ago I wrote a letter to His Majesty King Charles III, stressing my deep worry and concern over the rise of antisemitism and anti-Israel hatred in the UK, and in other Commonwealth countries including Australia and Canada.“Today’s tragic events have sadly demonstrated how real and tangible this threat is, and how imperative it is to act against it with full force and without compromise.”Related...Starmer Vows Britain Will Defeat 'Rising' Tide Of Anti-Semitism After Terror Attack On SynagogueTwo Killed In 'Horrific' Terror Attack On Manchester Synagogue
