The Hack Cast: Where Have You Seen The ITV Drama's Stars Before?
David Tennant with Mr Bates vs. The Post Office star Toby Jones in The HackFollowing the success of last year’s Mr Bates vs. The Post Office, ITV has unveiled another show that could well raise just as many questions, and was inspired by a very different British scandal. The Hack centres around the phone-hacking scandal that erupted in the late 2000s, and has already been generating a lot of discussion since it debuted earlier this week.As well as being a conversation-starter, The Hack also serves as a veritable who’s who of British talent, with almost every scene being full of national treasures and TV legends, many of whom will be recognisable to telly fans. But if watching the series had you questioning where you’d seen one or two of the cast members before, allow us to jog your memory…David Tennant David Tennant pictured during his initial Doctor Who daysDavid Tennant, who plays Nick Davies in The Hack, is inarguably one of the most recognisable British actors working right now. From Shakespeare to science fiction, David has done it all, although he is still probably most revered for his work as the Tenth (and Fourteenth!) regeneration of The Doctor in Doctor Who. His most recent on-screen appearances have included playing Lord Tony Baddingham in the adaptation of Jilly Cooper’s Rivals and Netflix’s film adaptation of The Thursday Murder Club (not to mention hosting the ill-fated ITV game show Genius Games). With nearly 200 film and TV credits to his name, it’d be near impossible to list them all, but Broadchurch, Good Omens and Jessica Jones are among his most popular shows.During lockdown, he reunited with his Good Omens co-star Michael Sheen in Staged, a meta-comedy where the pair play versions of themselves interacting via Zoom calls.Robert CarlyleRobert Carlyle in Once Upon A TimeRobert Carlyle also has a major role in The Hack as DCS Dave Cook.Decades before being cast in the ITV show, Robert became one of the most successful British actors of the 1990s, playing Begbie in Trainspotting and winning a Bafta for his role in The Full Monty. His other notable film work included The Beach alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, Danny Boyle’s 28 Weeks Later and Angela’s Ashes.
